Seriously need to upgrade CPU.

As you can see iny specs. I have a i5 6600k. I am coming to realize that it is really obsolete for today's gaming. So, I want to upgrade
I am currently thinking on getting a ASUS Tuf x570 plus mobo. And 32 gigs ddr4 3600. Now not sure if I should get the Ryzen r5 3600 or the r7 3700x. I play 1440p@144hz.

If only really for gaming, then the 3600 will give nearly all the performance with lower cost than the 3700X. If you do anything cpu heavy on the side, or simply want the extra cores/bragging rights, then the 3700X is also a solid choice.

If you're buying "now", get the 3600X as it's $249 (same price as a 3600). If you want the extra cores though, the 3700X is at $399 for Boxing Day too, also a pretty solid value. (Canada Computers for those prices)

Amazon also has the 2700X for $199 if you don't mind last-gen but I think you'd be sacrificing some gaming performance with the lower IPC.

I vote for the 3600 or 3600x if you can get it on sale I tested my 3600x vs my old 1700 and in 90% of tests the 3600x was faster and it gives you a good upgrade path. also, get my vote on the Asus x570 tuf cause it runs super cool on VRM and chipset temps from what I have seen online

edit if your looking to save coin which I don't think you are but just for options amazon also have 2600x for like 145

Looks like the R5-2600 deals are inventory clearing prices. It's about 15 FPS lower than the 3600 but still high enough to be playable.

Rumours are for pretty good gains and AM4 compatibility with 4xxx next year, if that sways your decision at all. You won't go wrong with either CPU though.

It's really a tough choice. I just game. So I am sure a 3600 would do the trick. But I like the extra cores and threads that the 3700x has.

now that 8c / 16t CPU are mainstream, there's nothing wrong with going with a 6c / 12t CPU and wait for the Ryzen 4000 (Zen 3) to come out...it's the last CPU for the AM4 socket, everything forward will be on something newer and no backward / forward compatibility. so I'd say hobble along on a 3600X and then go full on once the next and last AM4 CPU is released.
