I am bulding an AMD SFF gaming rig to use for LAN Parties. I can't decided between the two builds. The budget is set at no more than $650.00. Please keep in mind I will not be overclocking this system as it will be in a SFF case.

Build #1

Memory: Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - $62.64

Case: Apevia X-QPACK2 (w/WIN,500W PSU) (Camo/Black) - $108.00

Processor: AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ AM2 Dual-Core 65W Processor (ADO5000CZBOX F3 Stepping) - $116.00

Video Card: BFG Geforce 8800GT OC 512Mb PCI-E Video Card - $267.00

Total: $629.56

--------------------------------------------

Build #2

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H 690G mATX AM2 1PCI-E16 1PCI-E4 2PCI HDMI Video Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - $75.92

Memory: Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - $62.64

Case: Apevia X-QPACK2 (w/WIN,500W PSU) (Camo/Black) - $108.00

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 Windsor 3.0GHZ 2000FSB 2X1MB 90NM Retail Box (ADX6000CZBOX F3 Stepping) - $154.25

Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256BIT GDDR4 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDMI HDTV Out Video Card - $239.99

Total: $640.70

Both video cards I beleive are 9" long and will fit in this SFF case.

Looks good. My only comment is leave room in your budget for a good PSU and the ones that come in those cases are notoriously bad.

You can fit a regular-size PSU in there as long as it isn't an abnormally long one.:thumb:

The 5000+ is not the BE edition.

Gav: What have you heard about the stock PSU? I might pick up Stealth Xtreme PSU.

RIG #2

i would add $17.81 get the second rig and add the video card from the first rig jsut so u can push more fps out u dont really need a hd video card for a lan party . unless its with bill gates or donald trumph.

it would

the way i see it both great setups except the rig 2 with that video card would fly litterally off the computer desk lol... im working on upgrading my system rite now but im stuck for cash . quit my job at a coffee shop after applyin to the police force and now the wait begins. im trying to get a decent motoboard over this piece of crap ECS board that i have and definately want to up from my dual core 4800+ 2.5 to the 6200 dual core black. i got the power supply and the 7600gt is really sticking around with this setup rite now even ran 50 fps steady with all maxed playing crysis. Wish i could find a store that buys parts for trade cause i would give my board, a 200gig harddrive (sata) for a nice board. I want to overclock this 4800+ but i need a nice baord for it.

cards

Do you think the radeon would stay cooler than the GT in a small LAN case?

I guess youll want to use that card in your other rig too so I suppose the GT is the best all rounder.

Those LAN parties look like fun.

I'm thinking any of the ASUS, Gigabyte 590 or 570 or 500 series boards would do.

I think I'm gonna go with rig two but get the 8800GT
