Sony is buying Bungie, the developer of Destiny and original creator of Halo
Another huge acquisition in the gaming industry

interesting that MS is letting them go to their console arch nemesis.
Maybe, but I'm not positive Sony would agree to a deal that let them go independent again after a few years, and if they own them outright, Sony doesn't seem like it'd let a studio out from under its umbrella.Just another funding event for Bungie I think... first it was MS, then it was Activision, now its Sony. Once they've got enough money to finish development, they'll go solo again![]()

Not as big a deal as some of the other recent acquisitions IMO. Bungie may have a good MRR as a result of being one of the few to succeed with 'games as a service' but they don't have a wide portfolio of games by any means. They got big with Halo 1-3, and have done alright with Destiny and.... .that's about it.
Nothing compared to the scale of the AB or Bethesda purchases. I don't expect any major developments out of this one for a while.

I think Destiny usually has pretty high player counts within the MMO space? I'd argue it's done better than "alright" and Sony had a lot of exclusive content back in Destiny 1, as well as time-limited exclusives in Destiny 2. It surely helped drive PlayStation sales.done alright with Destiny
That's how I read Bungie's statement: https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50988, seems more about funding/resources than acquisition.perhaps it's more of a stake in the company than an outright takeover.
