SSD for Older Model Mobo???

Been out of tweaking and playing for a while. Just too busy to even be on the board much but I could sure use the help of the community on this question. I'm trying to determine if I can put the SSD listed below into the current build shown in my signature.

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR120GB 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I checked by BIOS and it does have an option to enable "Sata AHCI" mode and I want to do a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on the SSD (I'm hoping that I can call MS and tell them that my laptop is dying and that I want to transfer my OEM copy to my desktop). Am I good to go or do I need to upgrade my whole system to use this SSD?

I know that I'm in the wrong thread with this but I'm also looking to stick the following GPU into the case to replace my rather dated 8800.

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I don't really want to pop for an SSD if it won't work in my current system. Thanks everyone.

You can add that SSD and will see improved performance,
except that you won't see the top speeds from Chronos owing to the the fact that your 775mobo doesn't have any SATA III ports.
It'll still work backwards compatible.

BTW: I've been using that exact model SSD for about 6 months. Never had any issues.

As for the GPU. sure, why not. 550 is a cute little number.
I would just look for an EVGA model ending in AR -- indicates lifetime warranty.

dont worry about sata3
you will see a big improvement

personally i would get something in the 560ti range
wait a few weeks for price drop
gtx780 paperlaunch commin

you can always tranfer the ssd later if you upgrade
bigest upgrade for daily use is an ssd

Thanks for the help guys. I ordered the 560 Ti also. Also purchased a 500 Gb Seagate Hybrid HDD. Looks like I will have lose one my existing HDDs unless there is a way to add another Sata or split one. Is such thing possible? Thanks.

you can also install SATA III upgrade card if you want to feel the speed difference.

Purchased this card to add Sata III capability to my old mobo.

Syba 2 Port SATA III PCI-Express x1 Card (SY-PEX40039)

So if I'm thinking correctly, after backing up photos, docs, etc, I should be able to:

1) Power up with current boot - enable AHCI in Bios - shut down
2) Add the above card
3) Plug the Mushkin SSD & Seagate Hybrid into it & install drives in case
4) Boot from Windows 7 Install Disk
5) Re-name Windows XP directory on current boot drive
6) Set SSD as boot drive in Bios
7) Install Windows 7 to SSD - shut down
8) Install new EVGA 560 Ti video card
9) Re-boot and upgrade drivers, etc.
10) Re-install apps & games

Does this sequence sound about right? Thanks again in advance for any help. I hate frying things and/or beating my head against the wall.

aaa, says on wiki that Intel P35 does not have PCIE 2.0 only 1.1 so your card will not transfer more than 200MB/s at read. In this case you might want just to leave it on the regular sata port on the Mobo and just enable AHCI mode.
