Hey all;
My 500GB SSD in my Dell XPS 17 9700 (same version HWC reviewed here:
) is pretty much full all the time so I need to upgrade.

Most likely I'll be getting a 1TB, but can be convinced to get the 2TB model. My laptop is a gen 3 chipset.

I would say that reliability is primary over any speed tests/benchmarks at this point. I'll be installing the OS to it, not doing anything fancy...maybe the odd video editing for tutorials for work on Camtasia.

Thanks!

  • WD SN770 1TB for $105 before tax at Amazon CA? But it's cacheless
  • WD SN750 Rev 2 for $140 before tax at BestBuy?
  • WD SN850 for about $170? That's the newest one
  • Samsung 970 Evo Plus for $140? But Samsung got a nasty RMA process I hear
  • Sabrent Rocket (not Q) for $130? Not sure how good that is
Plenty of ADATA (may have gut swapped) and Teamgroup stuff in between but I stick to WD personally. Then again there are some kind of gut swap with WD as well so you have to do more research. Most SSD are now Gen4 PCI-E, they work fine in Gen3 stuff not like you can do much about the speed diff at this point.

SN750, even used, or 970evo/+ also even used, 980 vanilla is a 4-channel chip. About those without DRAM: I have a BX500 on a system with i7-2600 and it's surprisingly responsive.

Mini on RFD has a 970 Evo 1TB sealed for 140 @chrisk
