Stanford professor proposes a gaming canon

People love their lists- even Stanford University professors who obviously aren't keeping busy enough. Henry Lowood, who curates the History of Science and Technology Collections at Stanford seems to like his games and has so far come up with this list for the essential all-time games:

• Spacewar!
• Star Raiders
• Zork
• Tetris
• SimCity
• Super Mario Bros. 3
• Civilization I/II
• Doom
• Warcraft series
• Sensible World of Soccer

Not counting MMORPs I'd be willing to bet that the original civ probably has the most "OMG, where did the time go" hours logged of any game.
