@ZZLEE I didn't get a chance to follow much from CitCon. I saw a little something about the Corsair I think, but my interest in ships right now is a bit low. More interested in the new game systems and persistence they've been putting in.

Anything noteworthy revealed that is coming soon?

Well, I watched the recap by Noobifier of the panel with Chris Roberts and the lead Squadron 42 guy. Recap clearly isn't the full story, but there are some interesting things there and some concerning things.

The biggest concerning one in my mind being the talk about adding a skill system to the game. That is very much against what the original thinking was for how Star Citizen would work, and I understand the live chat on the stream went nuts, and not in a good way! :D I guess we'll see what he's planning for that, but it is definitely a departure and not a popular one for most of us who were hoping for the actual real world player ability based idea. Not a leveling up style system like other games. If they go that route, that is definitely a change I wasn't expecting and am not keen on.

But the Pyro solar system is pretty cool looking!

So still no game?

That's pretty much what I ask Lysrin everytime I pop into this thread. Which is 8 Years old...I've seen development cycles, but by the time this is actually something (if it ever is), we'll all be gaming at 12k on Quad screens with phase change cooled GPU's.

Isnt the game engine going to be obsolete by then to even handle where technology is headed?

Like, Unreal is (arguably) the most famous game engine, and since 1998 they've released FIVE distinct engines. Thats averaging one every ~5 years.

Yeah I think about 2 years ago in this thread I said something along those lines as well. That by the time this is up and running it will no longer be optimized for current hardware and the Engine will be way out of date.

I know you can move engines. Pirranha did it a few years back going to Frostbyte 2 I believe. Its just costly and time consuming. Not that this development hasn't been time consuming already lol.

Certainly a question we'll continue to ask for a while yet it seems :) I'd say there is a game there at this point. You can definitely spend lots of hours doing lots of things and much of it is persistent even. However there will still be wipes for major releases so obviously that alpha/beta model doesn't work for everyone.

At this point it's a game that I check out when new large releases happen, to see the new content. I haven't done everything that is in the game to do right now, but I have tried the majority of the main game loops, and some of the dynamic events. For me at this point I need a little more persistence of achievement to spend much time playing it. I haven't tonnes of gaming time these days.

I will want to play some more when the exploration game mechanics get fleshed out. When that will be... I dunno. Maybe with the release of the Pyro solar system. We'll see.

@Sagath and @Soultribunal their engine isn't staying static. So it is evolving in the same way that Unreal and others are. It's near photorealistic in a lot of aspects at this point, hard on performance obviously, but does help its longevity at least visually.

Honestly the big hurdle now (assuming they stop redoing things... sigh) is their server tech, meshing, object container streaming stuff. If they can get that working how they want then that will be a major tech milestone. If they can't... well that's a problem for the scale they want the game to play at.
