I wonder if the new features of 3.18 are causing the login issues or if it's another case of poor planning.

Well, I'd say if you consider higher than expected player demand poor planning, then yes poor planning But they did say before it went live to manage your expectations and that it would take them time to get additional servers online. So I'd say they were not unaware this update would be a challenging one given how many players it is drawing back.

I wouldn't say the new features have anything to do with it beyond high player load. Only one that could I think is PES. Players are going to drop stuff all over the place to see if it persist as expected and that will be a new kind of load on the servers. Should be anticipated, but it is new and how much load will it be on Live... with an unknown number of expected players? That would have been harder to estimate.

I'm able to get in today, get out of the bed in Orison, walk to the balcony overlooking the base, it crashed once there and once after taking the elevator down.
edit: tried a few more times and crashing became more likely to freeze my PC. I'm giving up until at least one more hotfix.

So, let's me honest... the 3.18 launch to Live has gone badly

I'd recommend for anyone thinking of logging in to see the new stuff... just don't right now. I'd say it'll take a least a week or two for them to get this launch sorted out.

I'm sure one of us "SC zealots" will comment on here when things settle down enough to be consistently playable. It's not there yet for me and my limited play time. I don't mind playing alpha, and having a level of bugs, but I do want to be able to actually get into the game without too much fuss. This launch isn't there yet.

Yes, lots of guys from the org I'm in are saying it is playing well now. And 3.18.1 with further larger improvements is nearing release.

3.18.1 was released to the live PU tonight.

Got in, no server queues, some FPS drops in certain locations but overall performance was decent, even at 4K, and all the expected features worked so far for a short play session. Step in the right direction from the initial 3.18 launch!
