Figured with all the mobile gaming happening these days, it's worth having a thread for owners to compare experiences and share use cases.

I'm WAY late to the party with the SteamDeck, but I traded a buddy for his barely touched, original 512GB model a couple weeks ago. Been enjoying it, although I was wondering if anyone else has one and confirm limitations on downloads? I seem to be capped downloading at 10MB/s on the deck for some reason. I've even connected a USB-C ethernet adapter and I'm having the same issue. Not sure if it's a drive write limitation? I've got a 1TB Sabrent Rocket on order to bump up capacity as I've already filled it, so we'll see I guess.

Anyway, I bought a d-brand case/skin and some thumb covers/back bumpers and it's been a pleasure to use. It's a solid emulation device as well for my old gaming library.

Think I'm still waiting for a bit better from AMD for one of these. Need an APU that squarely beats things like 2060s, otherwise you might as well buy a much cheaper, older laptop and have better performance. Maybe once the 8700G gets a mobile variant?

I have honestly never paid attention to the download speeds but never noticed it to be an issue. The wifi chip can be swapped for a faster one however it is a lot of soldering not for the faint of heart, not something I was willing to do. The drive swap is super easy though.

Although I understand where you're coming from; this is a device that let's me get a bit of quick gaming done in bed or on the couch. I'll go to my desktop if I want to game at a desk. The handheld format is what works for me.

Although it's not a monster gaming system, its only driving a 720 screen. So it doesn't need much juice to have reasonable performance.

No way I'm soldering in new wifi. Too much effort for what is really a convenience thing. Plus a larger drive negates the need for much downloading.

I don't mind the 720p, but I do mind smoothness. I've heard that most games have around 30-40 fps? It's gotta do at least 60+ fps in all games (within reason) before ill consider getting one

The one thing I really wish the steam deck had is remote install. If I'm sitting at my desk and grab say a humble bundle and think have 3 of these would be amazing on the steam deck. It would be really nice to trigger the install from there instead of having to go get it.

You can do that with Google play and apple. You can choose the target device for the app. Basically that replicated to steam.

Steam does local installs off local network. Its an option you can enable. I use it all the time to update my laptop before work trips.

Meant without ever installing it on the desktop.

Some games I'm playing across both some I'll only ever play one one or the other

So I've dropped in a Sabrent Rocket 1TB and tested DL speeds... still appears to cap at around 10MB/s. At this point I'm assuming it's a WiFi limitation on the Steam Deck.
