I forgot the new 395HX isn't out yet, only the mobile "+" version. Guess I'll wait and see the price vs 8700G before going for the APU system.

CPU processor wise, I agree...but there is no doubt the 395HX iGPU will smoke the 8700G though. one, its RDNA3.5...not 3.0 and two, it has 40 CU vs 12 CU. it's like an RX 890M+++ vs RX 780M, LoL!!!

honestly, if there was a product I'd love to have on package RAM, it would be with that processor. Lunar Lake had LPDDR5X around 8000mhz and that really benefited the Arc 140V performance.

@Marzipan it's more about the price of the cpu. The 8700G I consider a bit too expensive already, it's around $390 right now on newegg I think. If the 395HX is $500? Yeah I'll probably go for it. If it's like 800-900?... eehhhh I don't know.

I thought the 395HX was the AM5 version of the 395+, which is the mobile version...
I don't think there would be any socketed versions as these need LPDDR5x don't they? The memory has to be soldered to the board? Might see it in some of the Mini PCs though. DDR5 is too slow I think for the GPU side.

EDIT: I guess LPDDR5x exists in the LPCAMM2 format for laptops. Still kind of doubt it being a socketed CPU though, perhaps something like the Minisforum BD790i will exist though.

Now I'm sad, I thought there was going to be a 8700G replacement coming but now I can't find any info on any such AM5 cpu coming out.

Maybe Zotac will be the risk-takers once more and stick mobile tech into a standardized ITX mobo. I've gotten a few of their boards here and there over the years (they typically call them "embedded" boards), and they've been surprisingly reliable, considering how rare they are. So ya, pretty please Zotac? Or any of the smaller mobo makers, I don't care who... we NEED 40CUs aka a True APU in an ITX format so we can build our own systems!

I know it wouldn't be easy, but even things like mounting a mobile chip under a heatspreader that's at the same height and uses AM5/AM4 mounting hardware should be possible.

Guess I'll just keep waiting before doing the APU build...

Minisforum has an ITX board with a Ryzen 9 HX with the RX 890M...but it's like $600 USD, I think.
