Strange problem with Intel i226v Lan turning off.

I'm having a strange problem with my Intel i226v Lan controller turning off if I leave my PC running or if I put it to sleep sometimes it comes back on with the PC and sometimes it doesn't.

I haven't had this problem before,I had the problem years ago with Windows 7 with some Lan drivers where the PC would wake up 3 to 1 seconds putting it to sleep if you didn't have the allow this device to wake the computer checked off.

Do you guys think I should try unchecking allow computer to turn off this device to save power,I don't recall having to do that but it's strange.

I also had an install of Windows 11 installed and had to reinstall because a program I had wasn't working right and the only way to fix it was a fresh install of Windows 11,it wasn't acting this way until I did the second intall,I installed all the same drives and used the same Windows USB stick.

When I try to reinstall it won't even show the install, however if I uninstall the driver from device manager then double click on it it loads the driver in but I get no user interface it just show the i226v in the device manager again.

I have a Marvell controller and I could try that one,I hope the Intel one isn't failing and it's just a glitch or something with the driver because this is on my new ASUS X870E ProArt mobo.

This wouldn't be the first time I had a strange problem like this with other stuff acting funny on my other PC's and also with others that I look after.

I know that the (allow computer to turn off this device to save power is)is normally checked but I wonder if there's stupid bug or something like that and my PC is turning the Lan controller off.

Years back I had an issue with this I think it was the same I had no issues with other PCs or my laptop which I connected LAN ,I think it was SSwilson that suggested I check into power settings for devices and sure enough in my case the LAN was set to not always on at some time possibly an update it turned it to power saving and so if I left my PC fort more then 5 minutes it would turn off the LAN and even when I came back and move my mouse around and or type things out it wouldn't wake up to be honest I think I may have turned the settings to save power at sometime in any case after I checked it and changed it rebooted it turned to power savings again I literally had to turn my PC power t o I think performance then reboot, change it back to I dont remember the name of the setting and then made sure that LAN did not go to sleep to save power and it worked but it for me was a huge hassle because sometimes I would be sending files to my sister or niece and it would turn off also again not connecting to the net .

@Shadowmeph I know back in the days of Windows 7 for the PC I had back then I used to just let Windows update look after updating the drivers didn't know any better.

Well one fine day it updates the Lan controller and when it did the setting were changed in that driver an it was to allow this device to wake the computer, that's when my true joy had started knowing nothing about why my PC was waking up almost 10 to 15 seconds after putting it to sleep mode,I was able to google the problem and figure it out.what I would like to know is what kind of idiot would make a feature work like that I could understand it could be useful if done in the right way.

I know to that I had an even worse problem before that one,I had an ASUS mobo and new that I just built and when I would wake the PC up from sleep mode the PC would start to run and wake up and the screen would stay black and I would have to force a shut down of the PC,then after doing that for a week I would have to reinstall Windows again and then the same old crap and this went on for a month.

So I called ASUS and they said it sound like a bad mobo send it in for exchange and the same mobo started doing the very same thing,I called ASUS up again and I talked to a bunch of techs and then I told them I was getting really pissed off as I had talked to 5 or 6 guys by this point, then the one guy thankfully said oh so you haven't talked to are level techs yet and I said know.

The first and only guy I talked to that was a level 1 tech told me a few things to try which didn't help and then he said did change the S function or something like that in the bios and I no and I don't have a clue what your talking about I just set the boot order and a few other things,he said that it needed to be set to the right S function and there were 4 settings and was called something different but the other were S1 S2 S4 I think.

Well thankfully what he said to do worked and then said did you read the manual and I told him at first I was going to because it was so big but seeing this was my first build I read it over a few times before building my PC and then why didn't you just do what it said in the manual for the S settings and I told him I read the manual 5 times and took with me when I went for coffee and really read threw and never seen that mentioned,I asked him do you have a manual for my mobo and he said not on hand but just hold and I'll get one,he comes back and say's it should be in here but it's not for this mobo, the one thing I will say is the level 1 tech I talked was really nice and never once treated me like I was stupid or an A hole acting like I was just to lazy to read the manual, thats when ASUS had great customer service.

If your wondering the mobo model I forget but the CPU I know for certain was an i7 860 and I sold it a year or 2 later because it was pretty slow for what I wanted and I got a P8Z68V-Pro with a i7 2600K which was better for sure.

I think I have found out what's been happening but not sure how it did.

This article says you need to go into Device Manager and under the Advanced tab of the Lan Controller and find Energy Efficient Ethernet then you need to set it to disabled.

I didn't have any problems the very first time I installed Windows 11 and I noticed right away that I had no Net connection and I hadn't installed the Chipset driver or any driver for that matter so I installed the driver I got from ASUS's site for the i226V Lan controller first then the chipset driver.

When I had to reinstall Windows 11 a second time I installed the chipset driver first and although it didn't say anything about a Lan driver in things it was going to do the Intel i226V was installed,I wonder if the setting isn't set right in that's in the chipset driver and a setting is off for some reason.

I guess I know from now on to install the Lan driver first that comes right from Intel.

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-fix-is-...y, we reported that,a spare PCIe network card.

Right, thats who I think it was SSwilson told me years back about the Energy Efficient Ethernet, I think that it was called something else back then I do remember it had something to do with power saving .

I also remember that on one of my PCs a long while back the LAN driver didn't work I also think it was on a ASUS board likely I still had my old PC I had to put the vid car back in it connect the LAN find the proper driver own load the driver then I had to go by a disk because i didnt have any Spare then burn the drivers onto the disk and install them I think that this was around or just as the USB started keyboards and mouse were Serial connected the board did have USB but it was ll new and the board had have the proper Drivers and such installed then updating the BIOS and for someone like myself that really didn't know what they were doing plus I never heard of the Hardware Canucks website it was pretty scary
