I think it would be more logical to sort the sub-categories by architecture and now cores, since Core 2 Quads and Core 2 Duos have identical core architecture, just one has anther set thrown on which doesn't affect the single-threaded benchmark. Maybe set 65nm to one colour and 45nm to another since the 45nm chips have a fair advantage over the 65nm in SPi.
yes i understand your point but still a dual core and quad core doesnt perform the same in spi and i dont want to create a sub category only for the q6600. also if you look at the i7 is 45nm but still isnt comparable to a dual core 45nm, from my point of view.

hey tanker, how did you manage to run 4-4-4-4 to your memory?
It might be easier for you to check in on my biggest e-peen thread evar .

I'll play some more tonight. And that 4011MHz is stable 24/7... that's no suicide run.
That's good :thumb:... but realize that there's nothing wrong with suicide runs. That's part of the skill of overclocking...getting the most out of your HW that you can, with the equipment you have.

Oh, but I totally agree 'tank. But I always try to find the highest stable first - then I go for the runs. With BOINC still down, it gives one more reason to push the Quad in unknown territories tonight. And get that Ram upto speed finally.

More at 8.

the i7 is a different architecture. And if you have a 3GHz QX9650 and a 3GHz E8400 running the exact same OS with the same RAM settings and everything, the would be nearly identical as SuperPi is single threaded, so more cores give no advantage. Any more than 2 cores is no advantage to SPi. And again, by architecture I mean all the 65nm and 45nm Core based chips would be together. So what I'm suggestion is the following categories:

Pentium 4 Based: (Pentium 4 and D)

Core Based: (Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, both 65nm and 45nm's together)

i7: (Nehalem of course)

So it would be something similar to the 32M low clock challenge over at XS: 32m SPi Low Clock Challenge - XtremeSystems Forums

I've decided to push a bit more.

9.657 secs.
i7 920 @ 4264MHz, 1.45V BIOS
GA-X58-Extreme

Now, check out the Ram speed and timing...

3x 1Gb Gskill PC3-10666 (1333Mhz), running at 1624Mhz, 10-9-9-24 1N...:punk:

Hot damn... nice clocks on the memory.

Just a couple of hints for folks who want to play, but haven't been through this kind of thing before.....

Super-pi is very memory sensitive... fine tweaking of secondary memory timings can easily get you 5%+ improvements (big deal when we're talking .XXX between scores... :) ). It's also sensitive to tasks running in the background, so when you get to a point where you think you're not going to get any higher, do a fresh boot, and turn off all of your background tasks before you make the run.

after a gentle nudge, i have decided to post some numbers. i will stick with just air cooling for now...

ASUS Rampage Formula (0219 - worth .2~.3 from regular BIOS)
E8600 814A526 (killer air/water chip...bad sub zero)
Team Xtreem PC2-6400 C3 @ 500MHz 4-4-4
Thermalright Ultra 120
Stock MB cooling

no real tweaks, just a clean OS and not even memory tweaking. memory has very little to do with 1M...very little, 32M is a completely different story.

i'll try to find some fun 32M air results and post those up later. 1M isn't really my game, i kind of despise it because there isn't a whole lot involved as far as tweaking knowledge goes, aside from a couple tricks here and there. 32M / 01 / AM3 is where the fun is...
