I agree with Wilson. If its not locking up playing games then its a buggy driver or software issue. I have seen mobo drivers for the onboard nic card which has a bit of bloatware like monitoring services or QOS crap that dictates how much network resources each application gets. (Priority type software if you please.) Which Completely screws stuff up.
If you have installed anything more than only the network driver I'd suggest removing all that crap and installing it clean.
