Hello fellows,

I am currently running the Rouvy cycling app on my laptop with a TACX bike trainer. Many users have implemented large screens 55", etc. to increase the immersion, while they are cycling on their indoor cycle trainers.

I am considering a purchase of the TCL QM7 55-inch television at BestBuy.ca for $1,100. A few easy questions for you:

1. Do you think this screen would be a good choice? Is there a better one in that price range?

2. What kind of computer hardware, would you recommend to run the Rouvy app, to take advantage of the features of the TCL QM7 55" screen?

3. What kind of screen stand would you recommend? I am considering this style.

4. Any other input would be appreciated!

Please note I will not be using the screen to watch television only for use with the Rouvy app.

Thank you in advance,

CG

Hi fellows,

Did I ask a stupid question? Nobody seems to be responding to me :)

Thanks,

CG

I had good luck with an earlier version of this stand from prime cables....

TCL 4 series 4K tvs work great as PC monitors so (IMO) you don't need to spend anywhere near that amount of cash if the screen is only going to be used to display streaming video content.

As far as what hardware you'd need to run that particular app... no idea, but an AMD "G" series APU would probably do the trick.

No stupid questions, it's more like very few have experience with that TV model or brand, all I can say about TCL from my experience is it didn't last long for my family but it was a test size of 1 so could be bad luck take it with a grain of salt.

but I would suggest you keep it in one thread, it better for people not to think you are a bot or something trying to advertise for TCL lol

I've merged the 2 threads as I agree, it surely looked spam-like.

For about the same price, I wonder if a 49" ultrawide (32:9) would offer you even better immersion being that it's curved if you're sticking this basically in front of your bike.

I'm not too sure why you'd need an $1100 TV for this though, I'd think the cheapest 55" TV would suffice.

Happy Canada Day!

Okay, so an AMD "G" series APU. What type of video card (GPU) do you recommend for a television 55"?

Do you think an AORUS FO48U 48" 4K OLED would be a better screen for the Rouvy app? Or something else?

Thanks,

CG

The "G" series APU incorporates a built-in graphics card which should be more than enough grunt for streaming 4K video.

I really think you're over spec'ing what you need as a TV for this application. I suspect you should be able to find something for around $500 that will do the trick. The reason I mentioned the 4 series TLC is that I know from first hand experience that they do a great job when it comes to displaying text as a monitor. The video is going to display well on pretty much any 4K tv.

This presumes that your training bike isn't set up in a crazy bright area otherwise all bets are off and you may need to invest in a pricey screen with upper tier brightness.

Nothing overly specific, but I saw Best Buy had this MSI OLED model on sale: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/produc...ed-gaming-monitor-mpg-491cqp-qd-oled/17728641

If you mount it so it's eye level in your normal riding position, it could be more immersive with the curved edges is all I was thinking. Similar to a driving simulator setup. But then I guess you may also stand up on your bike, and then it wouldn't work so well.

Looking at Rtings though, https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/55-inch#recommendation_314366, it seems the Hisense U6 or U7 would be their budget picks.
