These things tend to mean very little if the mass population has access. I'm thinking of things like the "Rate this post" at NCIX.
Might mean more if just the moderators had the ability to select a given post to highlight as something of merit. Thinking here of the "Blue Ribbons" at EVGA site.

But best of luck whichever path you decide on.

Maybe a thumbs up and thumbs down option like youtube? That way it's a better read on what people think than simply "positive or nothing". I agree that it does seem to clutter things as it is a rather large additional "box" of text.
