The front / top covers are about 220mm x 200mm.

How does a step file equate to an STL? Is it relatively easy to convert?
A step file is the most common 3d model type. While an STL is specifically for 3d printing. You can't really easily modify an STL in most modelling software. While an step file is super easy.
Do you use Fusion 360? You'd just upload the step file. Open it, then you could easily export any part in the step file as a stl.
