So, always something with things I buy, but this is supposed to be a new GPU direct from AMD.com, and although the card itself looks perfect the packaging is torn on the inside. So less of a happy post in the happy thread
No finger prints or marks on the card that I can say. It looks untouched. The serial numbers on the card and box match, but the part numbers do not... hmm.Seems a bit questionable, and buying "direct" doesn't mean much I don't think, still some 3rd party logistics company I'd presume.
Serial numbers match? Any finger marks on the card itself?
This appears to have been shipped by ModusLink out of Miami, FL.I believe Digital River is the retailer for amd.com. And I've heard some horror stories. Although most were a couple years ago. When I bought from them it went smooth.
Perhaps the box is it's own "part" and the card itself is separate? Could explain a "reused" box from a previous return? lolpart numbers do not
I think you are exactly right. Same scenario for my 6800 XT; s/n match, p/n differ. So the box likely does have its own p/n! It is complex and well done packaging, perhaps it deserves it! lolPerhaps the box is it's own "part" and the card itself is separate? Could explain a "reused" box from a previous return? lol
As long as it works and benchmarks accordingly, I wouldn't worry too much. Make sure you can register the warranty too.
Installed. All seems good. Thanks guys! Added a build log post with more details. Back to a happy post again!I think you are exactly right. Same scenario for my 6800 XT; s/n match, p/n differ. The biggest frustration for me, now that I'm satisfied about s/n and p/n, is that I really like to keep my boxes in excellent shape! This was torn before it even got to me and it is supposed to be new! Little OCD there I amWith all the scams happening, I've heard that some companies are opening packages, taking pictures of the product with the box before repacking everything up and shipping. I'm not sure if that's what happened here and would be odd for a 'direct' purchase. But it would explain the internal package ripped. Those rips are exactly where you would expect from someone yanking it out of the package without being careful.
Could also have been a display rack unit, used for a quick test on a factory workbench, etc.
