Dewalt Stealthsonic. Half as loud as a typical shop vac. I have one and really like it. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/search-results.html?q=dewalt+stealthsonic

Hepa filter for Dewalt vacuums - https://www.amazon.ca/DXVC6914-Cartridge-Compatible-DXVA19-4101-Cleaners/dp/B0C7H1X7Z2/

Edit: Cheaper sources.
thanks for that JD, it's what I ordered. we have Miele vacuums for most things and they're very quiet, which we love, so when I saw these are quiet shop vacuums, well, there was no question what to get!

Has anybody done a 3 pass wipe of a large capacity drive recently? I'm using Erasure to do a 3 pass DOD wipe on an 8TB drive, any idea what time frame I'm looking at? IIRC Unraid Pre-Clear (writing zeros to every bit) was somewhere around 12 hours, so should I realistically expect 3X that?

2tb drive triple pass I want to say was close to 8h but wasn't exactly timing it.

58 hours in and I'm not even sure I'm much more than 50% of the way through..... this is not a viable procedure for high capacity drives if you have to leave your PC running for a week without letting it reboot or shut down.

Unraid pre-clear which is a full read, followed by a single pass of writing zeros, and then another read to verify took 46 hours.

Imagine trying to do this via the bios secure wipe command.... is that really going to leave your PC in bios for 4+ days?

Without a degauzer I can't see wanting to sell used NAS HDDs if a person is at all concerned with security of their data.

Heh.... gave up the PC wipe option and installed an Unraid app (nwipe) that will do it from the NAS. Just started, but it's predicting 62hrs to completion, but at least it's giving me a better progress indication than the previous app did.

Final run time (DOD short 3 pass) was 78hrs on a 5400 RPM 8TB WD EZAZ

Do you know how much power an unused spinning rust pulls. I was surprised when google told me 5w/drive range. So I unplugged the 19x 1-2TB drives I plugged into the server and took some power readings durring spin up and at idle...

Spin up spike reduced by 180W... idle power draw reduced by 80W. About half if the servers idle power draw was literally just the unused HDDs.
