this is the unofficial odd thoughts, observations and random question thread

I've never heard that.... did they provide any kind of reasoning for replacing it? It most certainly should be checked/cleaned to ensure there isn't a buildup of lint blocking it, but I don't know about replacing it.
I believe the idea was lint build up as cleaning it out may be just as hard as replacing it in some cases? I know I check our outside outlet to make sure it is clear, but I will admit I haven't checked the hose itself. It isn't a long run in my case, about 5-6ft I'd say.

I avoid spraying any kind of liquids directly onto any monitor/tv screen but instead lightly spray the cloth then use the it to clean, and use a seperate one to dry if necessary.

Dryer lint trap cleaning.....

Before, after, or yes?
I'd rather not kickup all the lint when my clean dry clothes are sitting nearby, so I say before each load.

For a while it felt like home shows and such were suggesting things like this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/everbilt-dryer-duct-lint-trap/1001803923 but I don't feel like they do anymore. If your run is only 6ft to outside (no other piping in the wall or such), probably replacing it with solid/rigid ducting would be another option too. I think it's less likely lint would stick to a smooth pipe and you could push a duct cleaning brush through it once a year too.

we got birds living in our vents seen them after hearing chirping that sounded very close, the exit outa the house is where they get in entire family 6+ burbs.

what are some cheap single use options for making some international VOIP calls?

my father-in-law has some money in a Danish bank that's exiting Norway, so we need to move it, wire it here, or whatever. Skype is 3.1 cents / min, which seams reasonable...but thought it prudent to check if there are any better options out there.

Voip.ms isn't single use but its monthly price is the phone number reservation and long distance is something like 0.5 cents / min and you only get billed for 1 direction IIRC. Cant recall if it is outgoing on incoming. Costs me less than $50/year even with the long distance fees to keep it active.

Its cheap enough at that price that I keep it around as a home phone.
