this is the unofficial odd thoughts, observations and random question thread

I tend to buy the pails of primer even with a paint and primer in 1 then any tinted gallon cans after that tend to cover a lot better and go further.

I don't recall if that one is but some of the primers are also tintable making the top coat colors stretch even that much further. (instead of multiple gallons of tinted paints).

Mud I would expect is fine as long as it didn't grow mould

That primer's the right price in my books..... since I'm just going white and I'm not covering any crazy dark colours would I typically be OK with just a single coat of paint if I apply the primer first?

Depends on the color in general... I tried painting my back entrance yellow which was a paint and primer in 1 yellow. Even 3 coats in a test area and it wouldn't cover the beige that was on the walls without a primer under it.

3 coats of the cheap primer (un-tinted) + 2 coats of the yellow finally got good coverage. I did a 3rd coat of yellow to get really good coverage as it is our main entrance + the stairwell to the basement so it sees the most stuff come through there and wanted the scuff protection properties of the paint. Yellow it turns out is a PITA even though not a dark color. Had I known about tinting the primer when I did that probably could have gotten away with 2+2 and been super happy with the result.

Laundry room though 2 coats of the cheap primer then 1 top coat of a cheap premixed white and already had pretty good results just with some touch ups to do where I made mistakes with the mud and didn't catch it until the top coat.

Thanks for the tip on this. First coat looks pretty good, but a pail of it should go pretty far so I'm probably going to throw a second coat of primer on in the AM before I hit the first walls with the cheap costco "flipper" paint.

Painting a whole house while you're living in it is a PITA!!!! :)

I do very much regret not painting the whole house before we moved in.

And that is why we took so long to move into the new place. Deciding to add on painting for the whole place instead of just my office was the right move. Always a mess to do it after the fact.

Of course we didn't touch the basement and that sure needs some TLC, but for now it is fine and we can live with it.

has anyone here ever had made a claim to go on EI as an adult caregiver? if so, any pointers, recommendations or thoughts on the application process?

wife has a doctors appointment tomorrow and she's going to get a note for me. when she was up at emerg, the doc there was going to write her a note for work, but her 'job' is fulltime caregiver for her elderly parents, which she cannot do right now. it's all on my shoulders, so getting 15 weeks to sort things out, care for her, my in-laws and figure out a system that works for everyone, would be helpful.

to throw more into the works, my brother-in-law, who's on disability has moved back. this is viewed as a good thing, but there's new growing pains and stuff to deal with as he's a new cog in the machinery too.

WAGH!!

has anyone bought off of Plaapp.com?

prices are ridiculously low...so automatically think scam, but all the scam checker sites say they're legit.
Temu off-shoot? (let's hope spam bots aren't triggered)

Any of these Chinese marketplace sites are always going to be YMMV I'd say. I tend to side with sites that accept PayPal to add a layer of obfuscation/protection to my credit card details though. This site seems to only take credit cards directly.

yeh...I tried to use PayPal, but nothing happened when I clicked it.

I'll give it another shot in a day or two cause if I can get the items I want, I'd pay less for all than what just one of them would cost everywhere else.
