And why would you pay $190 for something that is almost 3 years old and was originally $230? (plus, they say factory refurbished?)

Yes, they can oc good, but you can get the 4xxx haswell chips to perform just as good or better.

great question,does age matter much 4.5 mhz is 4.5 mhz right ? novice tryin to figure out what to do,lookin for cheap and good

All depends on your board and setup.

If you have an existing 1155 setup , then it might make sense (though still not at that price).

That being said it would make more sense if you want to ditch the old platform for Haswell.

Seems legit, but I wouldn't pay that price for used (reconditioned) 2500k. Keep an eye out for a used 2500k or 3570k on here in the BST, or kijiji, etc. should be able to get one $150-170 without much issue.

starting from scatch

If you're starting right from scratch go Haswell. Get something out there that has the lastest and greatest in USB/SATA3 ect ect.
It makes no sense to jump on something 2 Generations behind when the newest stuff can be had at good costs.
