OK-- I just found one person on one forum that said not to go over 80% workload on both cores as even orthos can't stress the chip beyond this-- that brings down the max temp signiificantly. I also found a couple of posts that said that core temps tend to be reading higher on the newer multi-core chips because of the more accurate internal sensors and that it's nothing to be alarmed about to see temperatures creeping beyong the 60 mark-- anyone have any comment on this?

I'm not sure why they said to not go over 80%. If you're not maxing the cores out 100% it's not a good "stress test". I'm also not sure why orthos isn't running @ 100% as it works fine for me. I'll do some digging and see if I can figure it out.;)

well-- both speedfan and the nvidea monitor both show 100% load when I'm running orthos or TAT. The difference is that TAT gets it hotter (it's not just TAT that says its hotter as the temps read the same on both coretemp and TAT.) The forum post that I found said that running 80% on TAT compares to the load that two instances of Orthos puts on the cores. (please don't ask me to try to find that post again--hehe). So if this is true then orthos obviously isn't running the cores full blast. The question is-- Will other everyday applications ever push it to the 100% load that TAT can do, or is TAT just really good at roasting those cores?

Some programs just are particularly good at stressing the cores. Generally the hotter it gets, the better it's being stressed. This is normal.

Has anybody had issues with moving the orthos window while it's running?

I've had it running for at least an hour without errors, but when I try to move the window my system freezes up.

I'm not done stress testing at these settings, but I'm able to run 3DMark `06,AM2,TAT, & orthos (as long as I don't move the window) with no indications of problems.

I'm wondering if this is an issue with Orthos, or maybe I've got a problem with my vid drivers.

Any ideas?

Seems to be related to speedfan......

Dunno, going to let this run overnight to see what happens.

Wow I never noticed this sticky because of the other overlapping one (with mostly working links):
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...chmarking/12620-overclocking-tools-trade.html

I'll take a stab at the ones that aren't overlapping with the aforementioned thread with my favourites:

HDD Diagnostic
Seagate Seatools: SeaTools | Seagate
WD Lifeguard: WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Black
CrystalDiskInfo: CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

(The SSD ones seem controller / model-specific so I can't put those as the list would be huge and need to be maintained by a script or similar...)

Other HDD Tools
(Acronis) Seagate DiskWizard: DiscWizard | Seagate
Acronis True Image WD Edition Software: WD Support
Recuva: Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

Live CDs
Ultimate Boot CD: Ultimate Boot CD - Overview
SystemRescueCD: www.sysresccd.org/
GParted Live CD: GParted -- Download
