Hey all,
Well, the World Juniors have come and gone and after a really decent hockey game, the USA came out on top with the gold. While it is unfortunate team Canada lost, it could be argued that it's good for other countries to win on occasion to keep international interest in the tournament. But this is not the point of this discussion.
I would like to hear what people think of Pierre McGuire's colour commentating during, not only the Juniors tournamment, but during the NHL games on TSN as well. I do not question Pierre's hockey knowledge in any way. I listen to him when he is on The Fan on occasion and I don't doubt that he knows what he's talking about.
My issue is that he is, without a doubt, the worst colour guy in the buisness. I can barely force myself to keep the sound on when he's doing the colour in games. To me, he is the king at pointing out the blatantly obvious, the lord of hyperbole and the master at the massacre of the English language. His timing is awful well and his steadfast determination in trying to make everything sound much more important than it is drives me to distraction.
According to the few guys at work who watch hockey as well as some of my students, I am not the only one who feels this way. However, I don't know if people across this great and vast country share the same feelings, or if it's just me and my hockey folks.
What do you think?
