There's a few online threads / videos that mostly seem to suggest using port forward but I'm not sure that's exactly what I want....

Basically looking for a setup on my UCG Max which will pass through the public IP to a port that I can connect my Rogers XB8 to while having the UCG plugged directly into the ONT. I guess the best way to describe what I'm looking for would be bridge mode on an individual port.

Hardware's showing up on wednesday and I'm trying to work out how I'm going to incorporate my internal network into the new rogers hardware.

Any suggestions?
 
I'm not too sure how their VoIP service works as I don't have it. I wonder if it even cares... might just be able to plug in the modem to your UCG like any other "client" device.

Their TV service surely doesn't seem to care, it runs fine on my Distributel internet (Bell) when it fails over :)

Really..... you're suggesting I can just run the rogers' modem inside my UCG network without needing to worry about passing ports through? That would be wayyyyyy toooo simple. :)

I was planning on trying to connect a switch to the ONT, and then seeing if I could run both the UCG network and the rogers XB8 off of the switch so that they'd both see the public network.
 
Worth trying at least, any other VoIP provider works fine behind NAT as far as I know. I've had Ooma for years now and do nothing special to allow it to work.

Other thought would be to put the XB8 in bridge mode, but then you'd lose the only 2.5G port, since I'm assuming you subscribed to >1Gbps.

IPv6 doesn't appear to be needed for TV, my friend with Rogers Fiber isn't running any IPv6 (ONT directly to UDMP). I'm on traditional coax and do have IPv6 enabled and let my TV VLAN have it. The boxes appear to pull IPv6 addresses for what it's worth.

Yeah, that's the rub.... I don't want to run my internal network off of the XB8's ports as I'd be limited to 1G and I've signed up for 2.5G. Ultimately if that's what it comes down to I'll live with it, but that's my last choice of configs. I'd much rather figure out how to get the UCG first in line connected to the ONT.

Thanks for the info on your friend's setup WRT IPV4/6. That'll make my life relatively easy.

Didn't seem to work plugging downstream of the UCG, but so far having both plugged into a switch that's plugged into the ONT seems to be working. Both the XB8 and the UCG have pulled unique IPV4 public IPs and the STBs seem to be running off of my APs without any issue(s).

Only problem I'm having so far is logging into the rogers modem so that I can disable the wireless all together. I suspect the install tech changed the default password so I can't log in, and I don't want to chance a factory reset to get it back to default.

So your friend is running Xfinity TV boxes without having the rogers modem plugged in at all?

Yes, even with WiFi "disabled" and my XB8 in bridge mode, there's still hidden networks. Though my STB's don't connect to them, so I'm not too sure what use they serve.

If you do a factory reset of the modem, it should take you through the setup wizard and you can set the password yourself?
