Vancouver Canucks...

I don't think it's nearly that bad. (Gomez is a tool that never really seemed to care much, and part of the issue there was that the entire line flopped, not just him.) Vrbata is a 55+ point winger when he's on the right line. He's a right handed shot on the right wing which is EXACTLY what the twins have needed on their line. As long as the new coaching staff lets them play together enough to build chemistry, I think we could have a decent top line again. I'd even go so far as to say he could have a career year with the twins as long as Desjardins pushes offense instead of playing the top line as a shut down line.

Also remember that we're really only looking for another 3-5 years from our top line. The goal is to break in a younger, faster, scoring line to replace them soon enough.

No I don't think the Vrbata deal is bad. It's only 5 Mil for 2 years, plus he's proven he can play and put up points with less talented players in Phoenix. He's a stop gap measure sort of like Demitra while other players build their talents offensively.

Overpayment is a Clarkson like contract, or Bolland, Glass. Cap % wise, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and the Canucks have plenty of room. Essentially the Canucks are paying a bit more for more production than David Booth so it's not a bad deal at all. On top of that he excels at shootouts so there's hopefully a few extra points there.

The owners saw the writing on the wall. For the first time in the new arena there were season tickets available without being on a waiting list. The ticket buying fans will not support a franchise that doesn't make the playoffs.

I'm glad Linden hired both a coach and GM who have lots of experience, if not at the highest level. Benning and crew have already made the team better in just a couple months. Hopefully some of the 4 first round picks we've had in the last couple years will be able to make the team this year too.

I'm also really interested in our 3rd round D pick; Nikita Tryamkin. He's a monster at 6'7"/220, and he's only going to get bigger and more capable as he gets older. He's got a rocket shot and is playing very well in the KHL right now. He's on contract with the KHL for 2 more years, so he'll be well developed by the time he gets here to play with us.

Big Russian hopes are a thing with the Oilers as well. Alexei Mikhnov comes to mind. How's Tryamkin's skating?

I haven't seen him skate yet. The only thing I saw was a blurb in an article that said that his skating was being developed. So not sure where that leaves it.

I honestly haven't been following the Canucks very much lately, but managed to get some tickets for tonight's Bruins game with some buddies! Lets hope for some decent anger on the ice at least!
