Anyways enough about moms, back on topic.
I have read through this entire thread so far and most of what I think has been said in some way or another by others. I will say that I have been a mod before on a different site and it was never an easy job. It feels like balancing on a knifes edge, either you are doing too much or too little. But the key to it is to be united as staff. I know on my site in the past we gave warnings for obvious infractions and direct violations of posted rules. But when it came to forum "fights" that would pop up from time to time we either all had a say or at least backed the decision made. Any temp bans or perm bans were discussed before they were handed out, unless not possible (we had a case of someone threatening another, instant IP ban for that one)
From what I have seen the staff here have done a very good job and I commend them. That said I would not have let some of these things with a few select people go on quite as long. I would have basically told them stop acting like little kids or you will all be gone. As others have stated why this became a forum problem was how the bickering spilled into all sorts of threads, not just off-topic. The second this bickering infringes on the forums as a whole things have to get dealt with.
We do have a very good site and I would like to keep it that way. We all have to make that happen. Post responses that are relevant, do not belittle others, and try to stay on topic. As for grammar, I do think that some people could stand to make more of an effort. I am not a grammar nazi, but I do know that we have access to spell checkers. I do know that English is not every ones first language and that is fine, just try your hardest that is all. I have even seen people mention that their English is not very good; that can go a long way as I will attempt to help them compared to someone who is just not willing to put in the effort to make a proper post.
One thing that I think everyone should do a little more is proof read. Seriously, I will read through this and most likely change some of it before I go and post it. Plus that gives you the time to think to yourself, is this post going to help contribute or is it just pointless? I know I have found myself just deleting what I wrote because it just would not help.
Oh and don't get mad if people disagree or say you are wrong/mistaken about something. We all make mistakes or have misinformation some times. Some of us are very knowledgeable in certain areas and others are not, but we can all give wrong advise at times. Things can move so fast in this industry that sometimes it can be hard to keep up. So if you are wrong about something and someone points it out, don't get mad; accept it and learn from it. Now if you are the person pointing it out, don't be a douche about it. It is not very hard to point out a mistake without being an ass.
Hmm, so that was a lot more than I thought I was going to post, but hey once on a roll, might as well keep going. All in all this is a great site with a great volume of information and helpful, knowledgeable people. Lets put this childish behavior behind us and learn from it. I want to read more posts about builds, cases, video cards, displays, mobos, ram, SSDs, and everything else, just not mud slinging contests.
