Whats your latest purchase?

Well with the surgery and all it did put a damper on black friday/cyber monday shopping, but in my drug induced stupor I did manage to grab a few things.

New rechargable mini air compressor (works pretty damn good)

New motherboard and ram for my old 3900X that will be replacing my existing server machine
Teamgroup 32gb 3200MHz DDR4

MSI B550 Tomahawk MAX Wifi

New Portable monitor to help when setting up new systems and just to have as another monitor (only used a little bit but so far works nice. Plus being able to connect just a single usb-c cable that both powers and gives display is awesome)

New mini keyboard (mainly just figured I would try it out to see if it could be a decent option for the HTPC. It works ok, but the touchpad is a little hit and miss)

Also got a unmanaged 2.5GB switch (still have not plugged it in or anything)

And lastly I picked up the Beelink SER7 7840HS 1TB nvme with 32GB ram.

That mini pc is pretty damn nice and while not cheap, I got it for over $200 cheaper that it is now so there is that. This will be replacing my current HTPC that is an old (like 10 years I think) full size beast. I'm also going to use it as an emulation station so that is why I went with the more powerful one. If I wasn't thinking about the emulation I could have spend way way less. But hell it is damn amazing the power is this tiny little machine.

stress test the SER7 as soon as you get it. this is recommended so you hopefully find out if yours is solid or has problems that could get worse.

Beelink has a better track record and support time than minisforum, but still recommended.

I have been playing with it over the last couple days and so far seems solid. Still have to add the second nvme drive I have for it and will be running it through some standard tests as I get things setup.

And yes I had looked at minisforum, but from what I read people had more issues with them.

I wonder if you could do anything with the iGPU to actually saturate and use up a 16GB allotment.
I'm sure you could if you say mod out an older title like Skyrim. You know a bunch of 4k textures and such can really up the vram needed. But as for a stock game, not that I know of that wouldn't be a slideshow at least.

I agree with what iPaine decribes. I'm fighting with HP right now to unleash the Radeon 780M with the same APU in their new ZBook Power G10 A. As of right now they are crippling the 780M and only allowing a max of 512GB memory to be allocated as VRAM.

Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS /w Radeon 780M, nothing runs, Adobe Photoshop? Crashes, WoW? Crashes, We have a large number of units that need to run ESRI ArcGIS. Imagine trying to load up a complex map no problem unless you try and open a feature class with a big ortho... you get the idea, not to mention, the Monitor Flickering on and off driving me NUTZ.

No we don't run WoW at work, point being min. specs call for 2GB of VRAM. AMD laughed at me. Still hoping HP support will come through but currently all iterations of the BIOS for these machines limit the memory allocated to VRAM at 512MB. Completely cripples the iGPU which should perform on par with like somewhere between an nVidia T1000 to a T2000, GTX 1650 closish to a RX 580?

C'mon HP and thank you @ipaine

does AMD have any software that could override the BIOS limitations?
