Whats your latest purchase?

Definitely something going on related to the NAS. Does not exhibit the throttling while connected to a windows PC (while still moving data from the array).

Not sure if it's an Unraid software issue, or if there's something going on with the USB controller on the motherboard. It's behaving as if there's a cache of some form reaching it's limits, but there shouldn't be any cache involved other than the cache on the drives and I don't believe that would explain throttling down to 25% of initial throughput.

Issue resolved..... there's only a single USB type a 3.0 port on my NAS board. I was using a 2.0 port, and not really sure why it was showing an initial 1 minute of full speeds.

I had been using that port for my other (open air slots) USB sata hub so it's just a matter of waiting for the cables I've ordered in so that I can use the USB c port.

This is an internal mount as opposed to the open slot ones so there's no way to pull one drive while the other is still connected.

Seeing some weirdness from the way it's hooked up though. Great numbers using crystaldiskmark, but trying to copy large amounts from the array to this drive as shared network drives starts out pretty good (140ish) but after a minute or so drops down to around 40MBs and stays there for the duration. I thought maybe the device was overheating but turned the fans up to full without any difference.

Going to dig deeper tomorrow to see if it behaves any differently as a USB external drive plugged directly into a windows PC. I'll also try the different device configs (will do raid 0, 1, "large" (turns the two drives into 1, but no raid striping?), and normal which I'm assuming presents as two separate drives.

This is also on a usb 3.0 "A" style as the C-C cable that shipped with the device didn't function properly (I've got a couple of high speed c - c cable ordered).

I'm returning it. USB C port is flaky. Intermittent on Windows 11, and not connecting to the USB C port on my NAS at all. I suspect it's an issue with the controller handshake WRT power delivery as sometimes connecting to a usb c port just outright turns the device off as if it's triggered some form of electrical safety cct.

I guess it counts as a "purchase".... switching back over to Rogers (fiber) from Bell for TV/Home Phone/Internet. Our 2 year bonus with the last round of Bell service expired a few months ago and my wife hates the new Bell STBs so it was a good chance to make the jump.

$190 for 2.5G including their full channel pack + Crave/HBO.

Hopefully I'll be able to just plug my UCG directly to the ONT and connect the TV boxes to my own internal APs.

edit: Hrmmmmm....... just realised the fly in the ointment is going to be the home phone. That's going to require a connection to the router/modem so I can't just take it out of the loop completely. I wonder if I can put the rogers modem downstream from the UCG?

I've been wanting to 'buy' the 12 piece Meyer copperclad kit with Air Miles. Been eyeing it for 6 months hoping it goes on sale. There is a 20% point back promo going on. So maybe good time to grab.
Yeah we got a couple pieces from them a few years back, they have held up well and seem well built.

Some water leak detectors. 2 weeks ago, the basement toilet supply line broke at the plastic nut (too old and it cracked).

We were lucky and were at home at the moment (was able to close the valve within one minute).

Oh, and a cheap intel N150 nuc on aliexpress, to replace my aging ubuntu server running on a lenovo M93P.
