Booked skating lessons through to December at servus place in St Albert.

Parents never taught me how, and then it just never seemed to work out scheduling wise as a young adult so figured it was about time. Hopefully don't take a massive spill during the lessons....
I don't remember being really taught either but managed to figure out how to go straight and eventually turn... Could get going pretty quick but I wish someone had taught me how to stop as a kid :)

My equivalent of stopping was going into something like a snow bank etc

If it makes you feel better I could skate and play ice hockey as a kid. One time I went on a date and slipped and hit my head so hard on the ice that I became the man I am today. :ROFLMAO:

Slipping on ice gave me a severe concussion and is the most likely origin of the incurable muscle syndrome I've had for over 15 years...

@FreeKnight Wear. A. Helmet.
Who the F@#$ cares if someone might say its over-catious or something. One slip can ruin your life. Protect your head.

Well, my friend, I can add to mine. In my late 30's, I went to the Chief in Squamish. Hiked to the top with my Dad. On the way down I slipped on a log and hit my head again. Probably have CTE. Lucky I didnt die. You know like in the movies. Everyone who hits their head dies. Anyway, my dad stood there looking dissapointed at me. didnt even ask if I was ok as I sat there in a daze. Luckily some passers by cared more and attended to me.😶‍🌫️

wear a helmet, get those wrist braces and then ask for one of those skating walkers. ;)

the first one I'm serious about...second one is your choice. you're too big for the walker, they're for the kids. ;)

Oh you will. Probably a few times. Pain is a good teacher.. still :)

If you wear some pads you will be ok.

Watch you don't set your ankles on fire ;)

There's an outdoor rink in my community a block from my house. I stopped at it in the late winter to do a quick test. Didn't take a spill (sans PPE), but realized it wasn't something I wanted to learn on my own. I've bought a helmet, basic knee and elbow pads and some wrist guards from Canadian Tire today.

I'm probably a lot less likely to hit my head than most people, only from trampolining and wrestling, you really learn to 'tuck' your head in on the way down to keep from hitting your head, that being said I'm definitely wearing the helmet during the lessons and any first attempts to skate solo. My brain is my money-maker work-wise so I definitely don't want to risk any damage.

As for the walker.... we'll see. I'm not concerned with how silly it looks, more whatever teaches me the most effectively. If the skating walker is the way to go... just call me gran-gran I guess...
