Whats your latest purchase?

I like mini vans. But new Caravans are so damn expensive. Like they've went up like 100% last 10 years.

IIRC 2013 SXT was $32K. Mostly loaded except leather, navation, and the super console. And IIRC the base 'Canada standard' was $25K.

Now their base asking is $50K. IMO Dodge is off their rocker.

Mini vans are IMO the most utilitarian vehicles out there.
Well that Chrysler tax is worth an extra few k over the original dodge branding.

Dodge/Chrysler decided a few years ago that they should price their vehicles in league with the premium brands. Jeeps in particular were being priced like Lexus' and their competitors, and a Jeep is no Lexus. Unfortunately their vehicle quality and reliability is the bottom of the barrel. IMO they're an unwise purchase unless you're keeping it for like 10 years. The depreciation is among the worst of the auto brands, resale is terrible and the brand's reputation is in tatters.

That being said, they're the easiest brand to get financing for and they've faced a mass over abundance of inventory due to dismal sales, so there's bargains to be had (on their bonkers pricing). At one point IIRC for the RAM 1500 they had over a year's worth of unsold inventory in the US. Market norm is something like 60 days of inventory.

As far as mini-vans go, they're an underloved segment for sure. More stable and comfortable than most SUVs, and easier for kids to get in and out of. Mileage isn't any worse and frequently better. They're a smarter buy than the mid-size SUV most people go with.

We bit the bullet and bought a minivan. 2025 Chrysler Grand Caravan in white to be precise. I never thought I'd be a minivan guy, but man... That thing drives like a land yacht with all the comforts to go with it. It's my wife's daily driver and she loves it. With three young kids, it's a life saver for comfort, space and convenience.
different make / model...but it still applies.

edit - also, I am a big fan of minivans, especially the Dodge caravan with their foldaway seats. lots of other vans have folding seats, but nothing as complete as Dodge.

I don't drive...but I would love to have a AWD Toyota Sienna with a slight lift so she'd get over dirt road bumps a bit better. they ride a lil too darn low for my tastes. B)

@lowfat Almost every vehicle has taken a leap in pricing since covid. Although they've gone up in price, our 'base' model has almost every major comfort we would want in a higher tier model. (Including leather seats.) It's the Pacifica (the next tier of minivan from Chrysler) that's priced insanely. You basically get a roof rack and AWD for an extra $13k. We looked at Toyota and Honda as well, but they're just insanely priced. It would have been a $20k jump to move in to one of those. We also had an inside track at the dealership and got very good pricing on the van and the extras.

@Marzipan The stow and Go seating is one of the best features of this van. Even with the seats up, the extra storage is great.

We had a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan that we bought when our youngest came along. There really is nothing quite like them for utility. It carried everyone and a ridiculous amount of stuff that my wife insisted on taking along whenever we travelled, and if I dropped the seats all down, I could put full sheets of plywood in the damned thing. Unfortunately, but the time it got to about 10 years old and around that 150,000km mark, everything started falling to pieces, from the suspension to the air conditioning. I think they've had a fairly major redesign in the time since, though, and the Chryslers were always supposed to be a bit more premium, despite being based on the same chassis. I hope yours works out!

It's a complete redesign, and we also got the full extended warranty on ours. Once that runs out, we'll be deciding if we extend the warranty to 10 years, or just move to something new depending on where our life is at.

Another ADAU1452 DSP + CS42448 audio codec. Receiver I got for my PC is year too old to have good correction built in. Although I have DSPs I could use, they only take analog, so I'd need a DAC. This is cheaper than any decent DAC out there and likely better.

How much for a little unit like that?

$291 in home theatre wall plates, connectors, etc from Prime Cables. Plus a couple of cheap monitor arms for to mount some bookshelves, as none of mine match.

A 150M spool of 14/2 wire from Costco. Using for in wall wire.
