Windows is a pig, steam os is pretty lightweight in comparison and you can still install a full suite of emulators and such. I personally don't see a situation where windows would be much better outside some specific game compatibility

That was my exact thoughts, but I deleted a reply before posting it thinking everyone would have the same opinion.

I could see a few obscure games where there's a compatibility improvement, or some old games that need particular setups to run, but the Steam OS (linux based IIRC) is so much leaner that while it might take a few compatibility patches or software buffers, it'll run the overwhelming majority better.

I mean I guess if you want to run MS Office or autocad you're maybe better off installing windows on your steam deck, though it begs the question of 'what were you thinking?' if that's your use case....

Ditto. I can't think of any good reason to chew up resources and battery life on a SteamDeck with Windows when it currently does everything I need it to very well. I'm just not sure the point of this TBH. If you want windows on a handheld device, I'd suggest a different device.

I mean, lots of people do a thing just to see of they can. And that's completely fine. Just because I can't see the benefit doesn't mean it's not worth it to someone else. It's simply not something I see a point in doing, and I suspect that's true of the vast majority of Steam Deck owners.
