"Don't use this download the latest drivers off [insert company name here]" in terms of hardware and software?

I mean, why would the manufacturer include the CD/DVD if they didn't want people to use it? Sounds like a waste to me :|

Because by the time the product arrives at your doorstep, the drivers included on the cd are more than likely 3 - 6 months old.

Its to get you up and running without need of an internet connection (which is not always possible right away). It is impossible for any mfg'er to keep drivers on the CD updated retroactively so while they use the latest for a cd of a given batch/run/etc... not all kit is sold as soon as its made. Thus the drivers are usually outdated, BUT it gives you a starting point.

Well, you could just ask him and send him a PM, his name here is linus:p Or I can give you the answer. The reason why he tell you that it's because the manufacturer always include crap software and other crap in their driver. the driver from the head company ( Nvidia ati etc ) are clean and the best working since they are clean. This is why:)

Wow double ninja'ed by a mod and a reviewer:doh:

If you download the drivers off the company website they are new and will work much better than the old driver version they put on the CD/DVD. The included CD/DVD is still useful as a backup though.

This was so frustrating especially with nvidia when you were doing builds. As stated drivers could be 1 or 2 revisions old.

So it was always easier to use a usb key and just keep the latest on that.

actually watch out for fresh just out the doors drivers. in some rare cases like the dead video cards, it wasnt a good move.

rule of thumb being, driver is out say a week or two and you dont see people beeching , go for it.

Oh yeah, Nvidia had a set of drivers that would overheat their video cards!!!

It pays to be first :)

Because Linus is correct when he says that. 90% of the time the drivers on the CD are already outdated and have crapware on them.

ALWAYS install the latest from the PARENT COMPANY....not the BRAND company.

For example....if you got a GeForce.....go to nvidia.com
If you got a Radeon.....you go to ati.com ( it will redirect you to amd.com....that is fine )

In my experience.....you are always best going to these sites rather than EVGA or XFX or BFG.
