X870E chipsets are overheating

Oy. Crosshair IV all over again? How hard can it be to design a flat heatsink that contacts the NB/SB properly then use proper bolts to hold it in place? Cmon.

I was already going to steer well clear of these daisy-chained chipsets to begin with. Love AMD and all, but when mobo makers said they wanted more lanes and PCIe bandwidth, you couldn't have made a single, bigger NB to accommodate? Two hugely hot tiny chips sharing heatsinks... receipe for disaster IMO. If/when I go AM5, I'll be getting the "lesser" X870 (non-E) boards that don't double the trouble. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, your title is misleading/clickbaity........

This is not a chipset issue (other than the fact that it requires a fairly beefy heatsink and/or active cooling), this is a manufacturer's defect.
Agree. There is zero wrong with the chipset and they are the exact same chips that have been around for a while already in the 650/670. Gigabyte are well aware of the thermal requirements, and didn’t suitably cool them on some boards.

Gigabyte issue, not AMD.

yes, I agree, it was a bit clickbaity, but I did that on purpose cause it's fun. :D

my intent was to let those with mobo's running the X870E know so that they'd check the temps of theirs in case the issue is more widespread than a single mfr.

As a former White Knight for Intel, I couldn't be happier with this system. The temperatures are all good. But I did go with the x870e Crosshair Hero so....
I used to be there too, and for NVIDIA, but in the end once the performance was catching up from the AMD side and there weren't persistent driver issues I became a White Knight for the best bang for the buck for me. Without giving up significant performance of course :)
