Debating on the MS Store version of MSFlight Sim or the Steam version. DId anyone buy it on Steam? Apparently it doesn't update the game unless you run it, and patches can take hours because you're at the mercy of the MS servers. I'm not keen on that, would rather let the MS Store take care of all that while I did other things. Does the Xbox app still suck?

I bought it on Steam. I can verify that it does not update through Steam, although there are small updates that I presume are launcher updates. I started the game today knowing that world update 6 has dropped and I am having trouble getting it to stay "connected" for the update download even though I have a rock solid internet connection. So, perhaps Steam wasn't the best platform. I didn't have the problem before though, so perhaps just flaky servers on patch day? Still, you might be better off staying clear of Steam.

I have it through Xbox Game Pass and the updates take forever there too. And I'm on Bell Fibe 1.5 Gbps package. The updates are large and tend to be slow has been my experience. I haven't updated in a month or more though.

Remind me how the MS Store/GamePass works: do I need a special app or can I just use the MS Store that comes with Windows to buy, install, and maintain the game? I find it confusing how many xbox related apps come preloaded on Windows10.

I have the Xbox app. It's like the Steam client, or the Epic client, or the Origin client, or the Battle.net client, or the... well you get the idea. It's its own install, separate from the store. If I use it to access the games available in GamePass there isn't any obvious interaction with MS Store that I can see.

Installed the Xbox app, I remember using that now, that does work better than the MS Store doesn't it. Years ago when I made my Microsoft account it ended up with a US address, intentional or not it's still there and I can't remove it. I can add new ones but when I try to buy MSFS it defaults to this American address so the price is in USD. Haven't submitted a ticket to change it but I wonder if it's not a bad thing to leave alone, or would it even matter as long as it's my account and I still have access to it(?)

MSFS sure takes long to load from a platter drive...wow.

Don't know about the US thing, but it takes a while to load from anything! lol And the updates... ugh. I haven't played it much lately, but I used to have the approach: plan to update one night; play the next ;)

You can just call them, I did it for my sons account when I accidentally signed him up under us. There isnt any benefit to keeping on the us store as far as I'm concerned.
