It will be easier to implement rules for blocking content in both home and work environment without getting screwed by ads and pop-ups when you click on something by error.

This is a rather good idea as it can help parents, schools and business block adult sites with a lot more ease then doing a wide blanket and hoping it blocks out the right websites and not the wrong ones.

It's a brilliant idea.

Make it law that all XXX content has to be on one of those domains.

This is a rather good idea as it can help parents, schools and business block adult sites with a lot more ease then doing a wide blanket and hoping it blocks out the right websites and not the wrong ones.

An internet police is anything but a good idea.
If laws require porn to be on .xxx domains, it will need policies and bureaucrates and high fees and some more stupid policies and laws and agencies to manage the said laws and so on.

I love the idea of a ".xxx" domain, but I hate everything it will bring along.
Say goodbye to the very little freedom we still have on the web.

No, not really....

These sites already willingly report themselves to proxy companies for them to get filtered out.

Laws don't need to be made at all, the bodies that control DNS and domains can do this all by themselves. If it's a porn site that is on a .com or .org, then it just suddenly isn't routable. I guarantee it'll be on a .xxx domain the next day.

I don't think it is really needed, I think it will be good to have some kind of system to keep people that don't want their names associated with pornographic material off those kinds of sites, but it is optional and most the "shifty" sites pulling that kind of garbage wont register anyway. I also think that Schools do a extremely good job in keeping material they don't want accessed banned already, Just trying to get a game review can be difficult at my college if you don't have the right type of login account..

Also not to sound too paranoid but I don't want small steps like this leading towards the complete restriction of the internet in the distant future, I don't personally believe we are limited at all at the moment but there are always people talking and trying to take action on that kind of stuff.
