Wouldn't this be solving the wrong problem? Folks aren't jumping on board because motherboard prices are over double what they were for AM4, not because they don't want the new chips.

I took that article completly differently and just that we might get these APUs in a DDR5 format for current motherboards. Not that DDR4 AM5 boards will make an appearance. The little chart half way even states that they think they are DDR5 parts.

Interesting. If this does happen I would guess ddr5…with the old cpu dies connected to new memory/igp/io controller (or maybe a new die for that with reduced specs). That is a random guess though.

it's no different than AMD's Ryzen 7000 mobility products...AMD is complicating it by bringing in Ryzen 5000 / 6000 parts and renaming them to be 7000 products as well.

what will be interesting is if this means we will see DDR4 boards or will work with DDR5, which would tell us they've had DDR5 support baked into their CPU's for a while. if the reverse is true and Zen4 is compatible with DDR4 but didn't bring out DDR4 boards...well, that's shot them in the foot.

I was under the impression that everything to do with ddr4/5 was on the IO die of desktop parts (with ryzen 5000 only supporting ddr4 and 7000 only supporting ddr5)...though obviously the monolithic APU dies would be a different story.

that's what we were told...but if they can adapt DDR4 chips for DDR5 platforms, perhaps they didn't tell us everything... :p
