BC, how goes the HST battle? Ontarians are a bunch of wimps

But this harmonization is the smartest tax move by a govt in ages due to the efficiencies alone. It takes guts, especially when populists see the word 'TAX' and go ballistic without critically looking at how smart this is.

While this is true in essence, what the government has done to implement this tax has really disappointed me.

I have a relative working for the CRA, everybody there got half a year's pay in salary in advance or more. :angry2: It was supposed to be a "job loss" compensation of sorts, but the fact is all they had to do was move next door to the provincial office. A minimum payment of $20,000 per person just to move to a new job all ready and laid out for you, and people that were retiring around the same time got nearly triple that amount. This is just a stupid way to make money, kind of like the HST cheques a lot of us have been getting, the government hasn't even pocketed the money and they're already throwing it away.

Giving money to people isnt always a bad thing, we go out and spend it, helping businesses make cash and contributing some back to taxes anyway.

Also the 10% alcohol tax you referred to is being reversed by HST.

Not too many angry people yet... You will be.... It's guaranteed! Just wait. :)

As usual.... it will be too late.

I hate the Canadian governments. That's all I'm going to say. Greedy bastards who care bout no one but themselves.

I might be one of the few people to say this, but I'm not really opposed to the HST.
Likewise.

I've always thought of Canadian politics as being akin to an extremely sedated game show. Slow, undecided, irrelevant.

update with the GST issue in British Columbia. the Premiere announced there will be a referendum late next year, and although it is technically a non-binding vote, he said he will go with whatever the people say.

CBC News - British Columbia - B.C. HST referendum to be binding

sidenotes:

1- yes, he finally realizes his party will be wiped out over this if he doesn't change course

2- all monies collected during the imposed HST will have to returned to the feds

3- who the hell will vote "yes" for HST?

I forsee McGuinty's government falling next Fall and we'll have a minority. However, the Conservatives won't remove the HST and they'll probably just blame it on the Liberals for wasting money, blah blah, thus giving them a reason to raise taxes.

Oh my god, you make me want to rip my eyes out. I'm just going to STFU and close this thread. But I do NOT agree at ALL.

1. THe conservatives not only support the HST, they made the "rebates" possible to lessen the blow of the HST.

2. Anyone that things any of the parties actually care about the voters is only fooling themselves, government only cares about itself.

3. Social healthcare is a major part of the problem for which there is no cure. Socialism does not work.

4. The only thing more certain in life than death is taxes.
