Old Guy's first dream build and OC - Gulp!

$300 for 2TB is bad. You can get a 2TB drive on sale for $110 i think at NCIX.
swap the GPU for a 5770, and maybe an intel SSD instead of a crucial one.

Hmmm.

Mobo - ASUS Rampage III Extreme ATX LGA1366 X58 DDR3 4PCI-E16 PCI-E4 CrossFire SLI SATA3 USB3.0 - Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R as previously mentionned.
CPU - Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core Processor
G.SKILL F3-12800CL6T-6GBPI Pi Series 6GB 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL6-8-6-20 240PIN Triple Channel Kit - You'll love 12Gb, especially with SolidWorks and Visual Studio.
Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 High Performance CPU Water Cooler - Noctua D14 as previously mentionned. It'll get that 930 to 4.0 stable no worries.
CASE - Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower ATX Case Black 5X5.25 5X3.5INT Front Audio USB eSATA No PSU
HD - WD RE4 2TB 7200RPM 64MB 3.5" SATAII - I'd go for 4x WD 1Tb Blacks in Raid 5 for redundancy.
PSU - Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan (CMPSU-750TX) - HX650W: more than enough, and modular.
4 of Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120MM Case Fan 1450RPM 21DB 45.9CFM (push pull on H50 and top bottom) - replace with 2 Coolermaster R4s for the CPU HSF (Noctua D14)
Sapphire Radeon HD 5830 800MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2DVI HDMI DisplayPort Video Card - XFX 5770. Plenty powerful. I use that card for Catia V5 work and it's more than fine
Pioneer BDR-205BK BLU-RAY DVDRW 12X SATA W/ Software
Pioneer DVR-118LBK 22X DVD Writer IDE Black OEM - choose a Sata model.
Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5" 64GB SATA III (for Win7 64x boot drive and Visual Studio 2010 dev) - Go for at least 120Gb models. With W7, Solid Works and Visual Studio, you'll need some space.
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium FATAL1TY PCI-E 1X 24BIT Sound Card 7.1 Optical IN/OUT - Onboard is usually plenty, even for surround sound.

awesome system, can you swing a 5850/5870 ? I always believe in as much grunt as possible with Video, unfortunately I have no Idea about CAD :) You can usually pick up 1TB Black Drives for around 100-120 Each (Raid 0, Raid 1 etc..). I'm Biased but love the Auzentech Forte Cards for Audio (Awesome Headphone Amp included), kinda like a creative card without the driver issues :) The suggestion of the HX650 above is a good one although the TX750W is also a good PS, no problem with a little overhead in the power department.

Actually Shaw's comments above are pretty good all around although I disagree on the Sound, I like a dedicated Sound Card as to my ear they tend to sound better

Wow!!! Thanks so much for the warm welcome and all your help.

The System cost is down $200 to a total of $2100.00 My wife thanks you!
and I have a way better build for what I need.

12 GB Ram now for CAD
OnBoard Sound
80 GB Intel SSD now had room for Solidworks and Visual Studio
No chance of a water leak now
Both DVD's are Sata now (big Opps)
Cheaper but still excellent HD's and Mobo
and thanks for all other recommendations and changes.

Thanks again to everyone

bestdirect doesn't pricematch.

Sorry, my point was that NCIX will pricematch anything off BestDirect, DirectCanada, and pretty much any other Canadian site that shows stock on the items you are looking at. So unless there's a better shipping deal at BestDirect, you're better off to search the items on the sites I listed, find your best price, and use the pricematch option in the cart at NCIX.

Looks like a good build. You'll enjoy using it.

You may want to get a slightly smaller cooler if you're going with 6x2gb sticks, either that or go with 3x4gb sticks and don't use the secondary slots. Or you could go with short sticks.

Venomous X-RT can be PMed pretty low at NCIX, otherwise the Prolimatech Megahalems should do pretty well. Plus they both look pretty good.

If you do stick with the NH-D14, I don't know why you would want to replace the fans that come with it. They're really good heatsink fans, I would paint them before considering replacing them. But then again Coolermaster R4's are dirt cheap after PM and pretty good performers in all departments.

Hold on - I have 2 more comments.

1. does the D14 fit in the Haf 922? I taught I read Haf 932.
2. Why did you downgrade the ram to DDR3-1333? Keep the orginal sticks for your 4.0 oc.

I switched memory type when I changed to the Intel Core i7 930 CPU, it only supports DDR3-800/1066 type memory.

My original case choice was Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower. Do I need the 932 full tower?

About the price matching, I have found that best direct's customer service to be very good, so if they have the best price don't be afraid to just buy it from them.
