AMD’s R9 280X is meant to target the “gamers’ sweet spot” at $299 and even though the existing Tahiti architecture runs at its heart, you'll be hard pressed to find a better value.

The R9 270X and R7 260X may not have the prestige of AMD's R9 280X but they offer an excellent combination of performance and price for gamers who are looking for a great mid-level GPU.

A little disappointed in the R9 280x... I have to say I didn't expect it to be slower than a 7970 ghz. With rebates and Never Settle Forever it is a tough sell while 7970 stock lasts. Great value when compared to Nvidia but I don't see why they would even spend the money putting this product out. Maybe I was just overly optimistic but I was looking for 5% better than a 7970 ghz. The R9 270x is really strong value though.

Looking at old reviews of after market coolers the most impressive thing about the 280x is definitely the temperatures but there are no other cards with this same cooler but it kicks the crap out of XFX's old "double D's".

Just looked at the specs and conclusion of a couple review sites for the R9 270X... Huge disappointment. AMD 7950, here I come! Based on the quick glimpse, it seems like these new GPUs are nothing but refreshes of existing high end 7000 series GPUs. It's just that the price got lowered, and minor tweaks were made to make them more efficient.

No Regrets on buying my HD 7970

Well I was a little worried that maybe I should have waited and not bought my HD 7970 when I did, but reading the review I'm glad I didn't wait. As was mentioned above with the bargains available on HD 7970's I don't see the new versions flying off the shelves anytime soon until the old stock is gone. (FYI I got Gigabytes Windforce OC version for $275 - $30 MIR = $245 + three games, which i need to select soon). I'm glad to see they simplified Eyefinity - got an older card and thinking of Eyefinity, better buy your active display adaptor now because I expect in the not to distant future they will be obsolete and gone.

I wonder if you will be able to Xfire the new card with a HD 7970?
