WTF!?!? This article kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies about where AI is heading..... I mean, a lot of us, when reading, or hearing, about various robotic, or AI progress have joked, "OMG, they'll kill us all", but if this shit ever DOES become 'self aware', we really could be headed to a 'Terminator' style future:

I mean this doesn't surprise me. Imagine that you were in a debate club and you were forced to argue in the affirmative for some of those topics. Even if you don't agree it doesn't mean you cannot come up with arguments regardless. So as much as we don't want to hear that someone (sometimes a lot of people) benefited from the abuses and mistreatment of others it has happened a lot over the years.

Just for absolute clarification not saying I support the topics being mentioned ***

Also it pulls data from people with polarizing opinions and it is going to include that data in the responses. So it could be argued that the problem is not the AI but us... as we are the source for it's responses.

This is kind of expected to me. A lot of these 'AIs' are language processing modules more than what we think of as 'true AI' per sci-fi. There's a lot of ugliness on the internet and that's where they're pulling this data from. You don't need to skulk too far into reddit, facebook comments or places like 4chan to think there's a wealth of text blocks where these programs can pull their information from.

It's also why I don't buy some of the alarmist 'the AIs are taking over'. It's conceivable one day, but we're not there yet.
 
I'll try to put this as delicately as possible: social media has created sounding boards for the wrong kinds of people. Racists, sexists, and worse can all spout their garbage far too freely. On top of this, I think the majority of the human population to be slowly decreasing in intelligence. The left side of the bell curve now far outnumbers the rest and because ignorance breeds hate, more and more are becoming the "spouting" kind. No surprise then that AIs that create their personalities "from the average" become so twisted and awful.

In other words: the terrible and disgusting peoples of the world are the loudest. The rest of us need to start speaking up against their trash far more often or it's just going to get worse. Silence is acceptance, and too many of us are silent.

Sad but, I believe it's true.
