Google's AI Bots tout "Benefits" of genocide, slavery, facism, etc.!?

The mods have been fairly kind to us in that regard in recent years I would say :)
Our 'active population' is pretty low so it's easy to monitor and we're all pretty good about keeping away. My jibe gets close to the line, but I still made sure not to name names or say a specific party etc. (and it's been all over the news lately so it's referencing a specific well known event)

I'm glad we have 'no religion threads, no politics threads, etc'. There's plenty of other places to indulge on that online if you want to and keeps this place free of the vitriol so common elsewhere. Sure we have the occasional butting heads here, but it's pretty tame and pleasant here in general (at least in my opinion)

Yeah I agree. All of us clearly don't always agree, and there are so many topics that easily spill into religious or political commentary, but this crowd has remained civil over the years I've been here, even when we disagree, so that has certainly kept me coming back.

I'll try to put this as delicately as possible: social media has created sounding boards for the wrong kinds of people. Racists, sexists, and worse can all spout their garbage far too freely. On top of this, I think the majority of the human population to be slowly decreasing in intelligence. The left side of the bell curve now far outnumbers the rest and because ignorance breeds hate, more and more are becoming the "spouting" kind. No surprise then that AIs that create their personalities "from the average" become so twisted and awful.

There has been a couple posts that have edged on the line. We generally try to leave those and see if the kids play nice together before actioning it. I dont think a mod has stepped in for quite some time now, outside of the Sales forums.

TBH, its been pritty easy moderating for a while. I think its cause only us old farts are left. Zoomers dont do forums. Too slow and too much reading.

There's a 'no politics' rule!? 😲 Maybe I should go brush up on the rules.......

The mods have been fairly kind to us in that regard in recent years I would say :)

Hmmm, after I posted that, I went looking, but didn't find any mention of "no politics"..... guess I looked in the wrong place. Here's where I looked:

Yeah, anybody that pays attention to this kind of stuff knows who you're talkin' about.

I'm glad we have 'no religion threads, no politics threads, etc'.

Guess I need to look elsewhere.... was probably right in front of my face, but overlooked.....

Mostly.....

I don't believe we have a written rule WRT controversial topics, it falls under the general discussion decorum that's always been expected when posting here.

We'll usually allow the discussion to continue, but monitor closely to ensure folks are playing nice in the sandbox. It's been a while since we've needed to take action, but in the past we've stepped in and locked threads once they started going beyond the civil discussion phase. Disciplinary action is typically only needed if a member doesn't heed direction from a Mod that the discussion has gone over the line and needs to be stopped.

On a similar vein.... we often see reluctance to post links to other websites.... it's never been our intent to prevent references to other sites, and I think that reluctance might come from our insistence that fights from other websites not be transported over to our forums.

There's been nothing in this thread that comes close to crossing any lines. If I hadn't edited the title and link for clarity, this might have been the case as it was a little misleading by not mentioning that it was an AI spouting that nonsense. I'm glad to see that we can handle difficult topics with polite discussion. This hasn't always been the case. Carry on, nothing to see here.

The amount of dust on our banhammers is both encouraging and sad.

Our forum has definately evolved over the years and with the Mods has been kept in a state that should be a template for other sites I see out there in the world.

Pretty much what I thought....

If I hadn't edited the title and link for clarity, this might have been the case as it was a little misleading by not mentioning that it was an AI spouting that nonsense.

Well, that's a matter of opinion, because if you noticed, at the end of my title, I included an exclamation point and a question mark, because I found it rather incredulous, that in spite of AI already having been shown to be somewhat stupid in some of the results it spits out, that it was stupid enough, in this case, to come up with those types of results. That, and if the title tweaked anybody's sensibilities, all they'd have to do, is click the link and see what prompted my questioning of those results. It is, of course, as @FreeKnight pointed out, AI simply combing the internet to come up with all the garbage in the title, but it still kinda blew me away that I was reading that. (n)

I'm glad to see that we can handle difficult topics with polite discussion. This hasn't always been the case. Carry on, nothing to see here.

So then, based on what's been said here, it's NOT against any rules to mention DeSantis as it relates to @FreeKnight 's little jab, and it's only against the rules if said jab causes a thread to devolve into 'forum anarchy'?

The amount of dust on our banhammers is both encouraging and sad.

Yeah, encouraging because other places can be close to anarchy, whereas here it isn't, but then how much of that is nothing more than the number of active members around here..... yeah, kinda sad.
