    Overclocking a 5970

So far ive started with a conservative bump to 800mhz on the core and havent touched voltage or memory. Load temps max around 82c, thats with a shitty 77-80f ambient temp. With a normal 68-70f room temp it runs much cooler, in the mid 70s celcius.

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

Hey its a nice setup for sure! Only thing left will be a 5970 when i can afford one and a couple more monitors. Kinda wondering if i should maybe spring for a better cooling system or just be happy i hit 4ghz on air and deal with it?

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

80gb would be enough for just the os and apps then. I could always use my 2 existing seagate 7200.11 500gb drives and raid0 them for a gaming/work drive. Oh ya got this up to 4ghz relatively easy, temps are quite high under prime95 @ 100% load ( in the 90's) but for gaming temps are in the low...

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

$250 versus $400, 80gb is kinda small for os and games, tough choice actually

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

As usual the 4870x2 is the loudest part still! I can take pics if anyone is curious to see what the build is like. Oh ya have a few bucks left over to spend on upgrading the hdd's. Are ssds they only way to go or are decent drives in raid0 still viable?

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

Im not using a side fan either, not sure if I really need to. My only complaint on the case is the led lights, not really a big fan of those, thankfully i dont sleep with my pc. Case has lots of room, even long enough to fit a 4870x2 in and not lose a hard drive slot. Temps are pretty good too i...

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

I dont find the 1200 loud at all, but i dont have the fans on max either, temps are nice and low. Might even kick them down to the lowest setting. I didnt get the dominator gt kit, picked up a corsair xms3 8-8-8-24 6gb 1600mhz kit instead. So far im liking the build immensely, almost time to see...

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

Can always wait a few weeks for something better in the pc world! Couldnt find any firm release date on it either. Found a local shop 10min from that price matched my setup within $50 of the big boys in toronto with only a couple of changes. Heres the final build, everything is ordered. CPU -...

Digital sound with .mkv files via SPDIF

I just have to set spdif as my default device in realtek control panel for it to output 5.1. I had a similar issue with ac3filter also. In the ac3filter cp make sure output is set to 3/2+sw 5.1 and under spdif options select use ac3 encoder option, that worked for me.

    Computer Monitor vs Television

I use a 51" 1080p tv also. Text is fine as long as you use a larger font and bigger icons, requires a bit of tuning but is workable and great for gaming and movies.

    Build 2

Cant get wrong with what you have there. Since you have a few k to burn, why not go xfire 5870 or a 5970 and do an eyefinity setup. The pc im building is working towards that but i cant do it all at once. Dont think you would be disappointed.

    $1500-$2000 upgrade

Looks like ill go with the zalman flex, nice review and price. Will do with dual scythe s-flex fans, either 1200 or 1600rpm. Memory i think will go down to either The mushkin redline ascent 6-7-6-18 6gb kit, or the corsair dominator gt 8-8-8-24 6gb kit which is pc1600. The mushkin kit has better...
