So AHCI is preferred with a SSD drive.
What if you later add a SSD drive for Intel SRT to cache the HDD? So the setup becomes:
- Boot Drive: SSD #1
- Storage Drive: HDD
- SRT Drive: SSD #2
I understand you need to set it to RAID then, so do you lose TRIM for the SSD boot drive?
I too am considering the switch from wireless to Powerline for streaming HD content from the NAS/server to my media player.
I read from some sources that the Powerline adapters create much RF interference. Is that a valid concern? Maybe Powerline owners can comment on if that's even true...
Benchmark Reviews did a comparison running SSDs in IDE Mode vs AHCI Mode. There are some interesting results.
I've always thought TRIM doesn't work in IDE Mode, but the article says "TRIM is non-specific to SATA controller modes, and will work equally well in both IDE and AHCI-mode."...
Not something I'd buy but a 600GB for that price with that kind of performance is great!
Yep, their consumer level SiliconEdge Blue and enterprise level SiliconDrive N1x. Reviews online are so so. Nothing spectacular.
Looks like MemoryExpress is still the best deal. There are 3 online now.
Found another relatively low price for Vancouverites who don't want to wait for shipping. $105.78 with $4.99 pick-up fee (yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either):
Buy Intel [SSDSA2MP040G2R5] Intel X25-V 40GB 2.5IN...
Most manufacturer 9600GT's with non-reference heatsinks don't come with ramsinks. Unless you plan on OC'ing your card to the limit, you'll be fine. It's not a hot running card to begin with.
Strange... I have the original NH-U9B on an AM2+ board and it already came with hardware that allows me to mount the heatsink in an East-West orientation (as well as North-South).
I'm surprised the SE2 version didn't come with that mounting option out of the box.
Update: Well what do you know...

This is what I'm waiting for. Got one machine with the 5770 and it's okay. But there's one with a 9600GT that needs upgrading, so I look forward to seeing what Nvidia has in-store to compete against the 5830/5770/5750. I've always liked a foot in each camp. ;)
I didn't realize at first, but after reading other reviews, the cooler on the GTX 480 are HDT coolers. Looks like Nvidia is doing whatever they can do keep the temperatures down already. Not sure about the GTX 470.
Wow those are some hot running cards. Performance numbers are respectable though. I'm personally more looking forward to their future lower range offerings.
