Don't love it. Not sure who you yell at about this. Feel like theres better investments to be had. Maybe email your MP?
IIRC CPP's mandate is a long-term return with a globally diversified portfolio minimizing undue risk. I'm not sure the default should be 'is there a Canadian X' for the CPP, it should be whatever their analysts think is the most stable.Surely there must be Canadian AI companies to invest in instead?

If provincial/federal programs want to look for CPP datacenters focused on Canadian corps, that's fine, but CPP should be entirely based on 'what's the best projected return' (barring extremely obvious ethical liabilities; small cap mining in Sierra Leone, known sweatshops, etc).
And I say this as someone who was on the 'Elon's a twat grifter' way before it was the public position. If they think XAI is the best investment for that segment, then that's what they should go with. Though I'm skeptical of that and think XAI won't be as successful as some of their competitors.
Why not invest in Pornhub since it's Canadian at least"It raises the question: what is the Canada Pension Plan ready to invest in? Pornhub? ICE? Illegal detention centres? Maybe the Canada Pension Plan could team up and invest in Russian bot farms," Charlie Angus, the former MP for Timmins-James Bay, told the National Observer, when discussing the CPPIB-xAI connection.
CP's newest official investment policy "Gooning for dollars!"I just find it a bit silly that Canadians complain companies here aren't as big, powerful, innovative, etc compared to American companies. They like to place blame on laws and taxes and such. But then they'll also refuse to invest their money in Canadian companies.
I would argue an investment in xAI is high-risk, and if CPP is making those kind of plays, why not risk it on a Canadian company instead?
Or as this quote says:
Why not invest in Pornhub since it's Canadian at least![]()
