Ender 5 Plus - Mercury One core XY conversion

Thanks for sharing your progress. This is awesome. @Bartacus
I would like to get a corexy and have been looking at the Vorons and other models but the cost is quite high. I'm wondering if this is a way to get a foot on the door of a corexy. Can you use it for fast speeds? Also printing ABS for some of those parts: is that strong enough? I have never printed ABS so just curious.
Most Vorons and other printers using printed parts are built using ABS, and I know Nero3d on YouTube has built several using Sparta3d's sparkle ABS+ with no issues. As for fast speeds, I'm not planning on chasing speed. Speed is generally the enemy of quality. Everyone and their mother is talking about how good the Bambu Labs X1C is, but very few people are talking about the bad print quality. In fact, a lot of Bambu owners have had to slow their printers DOWN in order to print better. The faster you print, the more things can go wrong, and the "tighter" your machine has to be in order to produce quality results. So I won't be aiming for silly speeds.

Price for Voron kits is certainly prohibitive. If you could find a used (or better yet, broken) Ender 5 or 5 Plus, that's certainly a much more cost-effective option, assuming the frame isn't jacked. But you'll still need to spend money on linear rails, upgrading the hot end, extruder / direct drive, new motherboard, etc. But it would surely be much cheaper than dropping 2 grand + on a Voron 2.4 kit from LDO.

I stumbled upon this thread searching for Mercury conversions.
Unfortunately, I can't see the pictures, you posted in the first few posts, even if I am logged into this site.

Thanks in advance,
Peuqi

Unfortunately the linked pictures are dead and @Bartacus hasn't been on the forum in a while. Perhaps he'll check at some point and be able to update the pics.

Yeah I've been scarce. Moved the GF in with me, and we have a doggo now, so all my hobbies are covered in dust, LOL! I'm going to blow the dust off at some point, but so much has changed that even if I do finish this off, it'll be out of date. My stepper tower pieces are the older bigger ones, I haven't bothered printing the new ones, since it's all belted up.

The biggest pain is a self-inflicted one, that big fat 600W Meanwell PSU I bought. I had to make my own DIN mounts for it (which are ugly as heck but functional), but I still need to re-work the DIN rail mounts themselves, due to the size to the PSU. The DIN rail the PSU sits on needs to be much lower than the stock DIN mount. So I'm printing extended mounts now to drop the PSU lower down in the electronics enclosure.

I just re-refreshed my imgur account too, not sure if that will fix the pictures. I never deleted them, just let the imgur account go "stale".

Hi,
nice to meet you!
Sweet, when you got the pics up again.
I switched the PSU at the very beginning of my 3D-printing career to the 600W Meanwell: I drilled some new holes into the case and bolted the PSU into the stock case instead of creating a new mount for it. Works like a charm and fast to realize.

Very good idea if you're keeping the stock electronics box! I'm going with the Mercury 1 electronics enclosure, so I'll be DIN-mounting mine, even if it's more wobbly than the average drunk leaving the bar at 3AM. Hopefully I'll be posting some new pics this weekend.
