GTX 660 SLI vs GTX 680 - Subjective Comparison

Great article. This question gets asked a lot in forums everywhere. I recommend dual GTX 660s (our GC edition) all the time to those looking for the most performance for the money, but I use a single GTX 680 GC in my main system with great results.

GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2 GB in 2-Way and 3-Way SLI Configurations . Page 4 - X-bit labs

Note Crysis 2 minimum fps

Note F1 2012 not scaling

I'm not a big fan of two mid range cards as an alternative to a high end card, minimum framerates and latency can make what looks like a better experience on average framerates actually worse.

(although NVIDIA's drivers largely minimize the latency issues)

Well Yeah, if you pick and choose benchmark results, then yeah, the twin-card solution will lose.

I mentioned that SLI/Crossfire does not always scale well in all applications.

However, in the majority of games, it seems to be a viable solution.

With next gen consoles on the horizon, I think the gpu memory usage of Bioshock Infinite is a sign of things to come, therefore I see a 4GB card as having value if you plan to use it for a couple of years.

I agree, and NVIDIA does a great job with SLi. I've had it in at least one one my rigs since NVIDIA launched SLi.

Just saying that if I were buying today for a 1080P monitor I'd buy a single OCd 680 vs 660 SLi. (or a 7970 GHz edition)

If I were buying today for my 25X16 panels I'd buy a Titan, not 680 SLi.

I've always considered multi GPU what you do when there aren't single GPU solutions that can do what you need. (not something you buy to save a few bucks get a few more fps)
