Hello I'm recently been forced to choose between the two card

and I was wondering which would have more bang for the buck
since the 480 is only a $50 price preminum from where I get my parts so I was wondering if I should get teh 480 as oppose to the 5870.

This is for a gaming PC, running on Corsair HX1000W powersource. In an Air cooled Silverstone Raven-01

Thanks

If you don't mind the extra noise, heat and power consumption, than get the GTX 480. :thumb:

Even though i went with a 5870, if you are looking at a 50$ difference i would go with the 480.

The VaporX variants are usually more expensive than reference cards so you could get a 5870 for cheaper providing your supplier carriers different versions of the 5870. The 480 is the better card performance wise though...

480/5870

I don't know what kind of budget you have, but if you can rob the piggy bank the 5970 kicks everyones $ss.
Ok, a bit insane, but what the hay, you only live once and this baby runs cooler than the 480 as well as draws less power. You save enough on your electric bill to justify this to the little lady, hehe.

After all, it is Earth Day and your doing your part. LOL

HD5970 is a little on the expensive side isn't it? also, it's freakin' long!
IMHO, a cheap HD5870 is a good alternative to a GTX480. BUT, if you start talking about the overclocked and custom versions with a higher price tag, not too sure if the ATI is still really worth it over the GTX.

5970

Yeah it is pretty big, over 12" long. Of course it's more expensive. If you check prices it's about $150 more. Now check benchmarks and one on one it blows everything out of the water. The eyefinity on the ATI cards is pretty good whatever you get. I've always had Nvidia 'til now and don't regret it one bit. Performance is what I go for and the 5970 has it in spades!!!

Like I said, didn't know what your budget was like. Now if you wanted to go six core cpu, the AMD is a mere $300 compared to Intel @ $1100. Decisions decisions.
