i have a WD green drive giving odd behaviour.

trying to transfer a 1.05 gb file to it and it comes to a near stop about half way through.
this same files will transfer to all other drives without fail.
s.m.a.r.t. test are all good

transferring from this drive to the other goes about 100mb per second.
i am pulling everything off just in case.

i should say that i use my drives as storage dumps (except "C") so performance is not a problem

am i right in assuming that it is toast?

WD reds here i come.

Check event viewer for any odd entries as well.

Where did you check the smart info from bios or Crystal diskinfo?

I had a drive die in a completely new way.

No SMART errors, passed Seagate diagnostics completely.... but when using the computer (it was the boot drive) the drive would act busy (HD light was always on) and would lag up to 30 seconds in the GUI.

After a couple days tried to clone it to a new drive. It died on the next reboot into Acronis.

i feel like a frigging dimwit.
turns out it was a loose data cable. dont quite understand the ability to transfer "from" and the "transfers "to" being slow (with cable loose). reseated and all is well.

thx for the help. it did send me in the right direction.
