OB-1 Rebuild

Dam nice build! Gives me ideas for my family members' upcoming pc build!

But... (sorry) not a case for me. I dont understand the PSU directly behind the motherboard, like at all.

If your cpu cooler needs the back clear to be accessed, you gotta pull the PSU. Not as big an issue if you've got 100% modular cables, at least.

And if someone uses an ITX board in there? Which is actually fairly common to do in these larger cases, with a vertical GPU. But many ITX boards have got a back -mounted NVME drive. I suppose with a low enough profile heatsink on it and perhaps the PSU intake facing it, it wouldn't be terrible, but still... less room.

Sortof a weird choice. You've got the space lower down, the AC cable would be nicer lower down, would avoid all my above-mentioned quirks. IDK.. what advantages does that placement have, other than perhaps letting use Very short modular cables? 🤷‍♂️

It's done that way to accommodate 'project zero' or 'back connect' motherboards. Those motherboards require all the outside edges of the boards to be exposed. That's also why they made some of the choices they did with lack of cable routing. But alas, I don't have one of those boards.

@Caldezar are the bottom or rear fans reverse blades? looking for alternative's that wont cost me $300 in future since Asia horse seemed to have dried up for budget argb lol.

Yes. both the vertical stack and bottom fans are reverse for intake. The rad and back fan are regular for exhaust. At $11/piece, they're an incredible value.

Reverse:

Regular:

Thermalright also has them in black, and with or without the fan blades lit up.

Interesting. I'd almost total forgotten BTF mobos, because it really just seems like a scam to sell people new cases that support it? 🤣 mostly joking...

I guess BTF *could* be nice for builds where there absolutely no allowance for visible cables. But cmon, there's always going to be a wire or two visible. And even if they do BTF AND those mobo pcie power connectors (which I am Massively Against!), it still will never be perfect.

Oh... and then if they do mobo supplied PCIe power, that means new connectors. Which means new riser cables. Ugh.

We've got so much already, a lot of this stuff just seems like massive money for tiny aesthetic gains. I, personally, LIKE the standards we have now. Re-use a 20 year old case? No problem. Re-use a 10 year old PSU? No problem. Etc.

🤷‍♂️ or maybe ive officially reached "grumpy old man", the builder version 🤣

My 9070XT Red Devil has arrived. Go team red! This is a very well built card. I've held a 9070XT ASRock Steel Legend, and this is FAR superior. The ASRock was very light and felt cheap. This is just as hefty as my 4080 was, and appears to be very well built.

I installed it so it's up and functional, but I still need to clean up cabling and I have yet to try gaming with it. But so far it looks awesome. This may be my new favorite design for a GPU.

(Excuse the quick and dirty photos.)

I've been running the 9070XT through the paces and have to say that it's more than holding its own over the 4080. It's beating the 4080 in a good chunk of situations, and even holds its own with Ray tracing so far.

I don't regret this switch at all.
