Hey guys, I'm eyeing a Powercolor 5970 but I've never owned anything from Powercolor. On the ATI side, I've only every owned ATI, Saphire, and HIS branded products.

Does Powercolor make good stuff? Any pros and cons?
 
90% of the time they all use the Reference Board, so they are all the same except the fan sticker. Some do custom design and board like the PCS+ serie in Powerlor and Toxic in Sapphire...
 
In the past they've had a reputation for video cards which would fail quickly but that was 5-10 years ago. I've stayed away from them during that time but they may have improved by now.

Powercolor offers the same 2 year warranty like Sapphire so I suppose there isn't something "extra" to fear.
 
Yea, everything is basically the same. Powercolor is not something to definatly stay away from, but it would be more natural to buy a card from xfx, saphire ect. just cuz of the name. if its cheaper by like $30+ then go for it, if its the same price as other brands, then might as well get the other ones.
 
In my experience, Powercolor is the budget brand, but it doesn't really equal budget PCB and components. I've deployed about 3 or 4 HD4K Powercolor cards and they're still running strong. Their MIR support is a bit flaky though.

Well, the problem right now is availability. The only reason I'm considering one is because it is the only 5970 in stock right now at NCIX.
 
I had a 4670 and 4850 from Powercolour and both cards worked great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy Powercolour again if I went back to the red side.
 
I still have a powercolor 9700pro still in service so i would have to say they arent that bad.
